This a new FREE monthly Wednesday evening series called “Jazz973@Clements”, which focuses on local and emerging musicians and is curated by Gregory Burrus local promoter and producer at Clements Place Jazz.

The TnT Quartet provides a fresh look into the classic trombone & tenor sax frontline repertoire as well as exciting originals. Fueled by the underlying foundation of the hard swinging and funky groove, the beat is considered the most essential element in our group. All the members of the quartet are established, world-renowned musicians in the New Jersey/New York area. They perform prolifically throughout the tri-state area.

PETER LIN – Trombone

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Taiwanese-American trombonist Peter Lin has been recently described by Downbeat Magazine as “solid, fluid, and smooth”. He received his B.A. Music from William Paterson University and MM for Jazz Trombone Studies at Rutgers University. He is currently a faculty member at Jazz House Kids in Montclair, NJ. He has studied with jazz legends such as Slide Hampton, Steve Turre, Conrad Herwig, Robin Eubanks, Steve Davis, & Frank Lacy. He has performed with many notable artists including Slide Hampton, Winard Harper, Charli Persip, JD Allen, Valerie Ponomarev, & Radam Schwartz. He recently released an album with The Lintet called “With Respect”, which has peaked at #4 on the RMR Jazz Charts.

JD ALLEN – Sax

After moving to New York City from Detroit, JD Allen played with George Cables, Betty Carter, Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette, Frank Foster, Butch Morris, David Murray, and Wallace Roney. Closer to his generation, he has played with Lucian Ban, Cindy Blackman, Gerald Cleaver, Dave Douglas, Orrin Evans, Duane Eubanks, Marcus Gilmore, Russell Gunn, Winard Harper, Elisabeth Kontomanou, Meshell Ndegeocello, Jeremy Pelt, Eric Revis.

Allen’s first solo album, In Search Of (Criss Cross, 1999), led to his selection as Best New Artist in Italy. In 2002, his second album was chosen a top ten album of the year by Jazziz magazine. Ten years later he was named best composer and best tenor saxophonist in the Critics’ Poll at DownBeat magazine. A critic at NPR picked his album Victory (Sunnyside, 2011) for the number three spot in the top twenty albums of 2011.

NIC CACIOPPO- Drums

Drummer and composer Nic Cacioppo grew up in a musical household (mother, father and brother all musicians/educators) As a teenager, he started early playing gigs in Philadelphia. After finishing high school, he moved to Northern New Jersey to attend William Paterson University. Since migrating to New Jersey, Cacioppo has had the honor of working with world class musicians including Johnny O’Neal, Gene Perla, Slide Hampton, Tyshawn Sorey, and Wallace Roney. He can most commonly be found performing in NJ, NYC, and PA.

IAN KENSELAAR – Bass

Ian Kenselaar was born and raised in Maplewood, NJ where he was first introduced to the rich culture of jazz by his musically driven family. Ian an NJPAC Jazz for Teens program alumini, a JAZZ HOUSE KiDS alumni, a former Student Services Associate and immersed himself in the music by spent time and accompanying student ensembles during their performances, as part of the Emerging Musicians Community Concert (EMC2) program. . Ian is comfortable performing classic jazz standards as well as fun arrangements arranged by other composers.

Currently very much in demand, Ian performs regularly in the New York, New Jersey metropolitan area with his Ian Kenselaar Trio, currently at The Hutton in Jersey City. Has performed as a sideman with other world-renowned jazz artist, played various venues such as the New Brunswick Jazz Project, NYC Smalls Live, South Orange Downtown After Sundown, ,Powers Market North Bennington, Vermont, Zlante Uste Golden Festival, Bklyn NY, Montclair Food & Wine Festival and more

Jazz On Sloan at the South Orange Gazebo comes alive for the 9th season of the popular Downtown After Sundown Live Concert Series.

South Orange NJ opens it’s Very Popular 9th Season of Downtown after Sundown – Jazz On Sloan Live Concerts this Memorial Day Weekend. Performances start every Friday, Saturday and selected Special Sundays with the sounds of Jazz glistening the airways throughout the entire Downtown South Orange area.  This jazz series of events features an extensive mix of North Jersey’s top classic seasoned jazz musicians along with some of the best up and coming jazz artist in this Northern New Jersey, New York region.

From a professional 20-piece Swing Town Big Band, Blue Note Jazz Recording Artists, Contemporary Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Dixieland Jazz, Latin Jazz and of course Mainstream Jazz artist to a co- recipient of a Jazz Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, you name it we got it.

2018 season has Jazz across the generations from seasoned Grammy Award winning jazz professionals, semi-finalist at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition in Switzerland, nationally acclaimed jazz performers and composers whose music has played to international audiences. Also this season is an  a young up and coming jazz piano prodigy who is a recipient of the 2017 Governor’s Award for “Exceptional Promise in Music”, recipient of two International Women in Jazz awards and also named the 2015 Hot House Fan Decision Awards Best Up and Coming Young Artist”.

That’s right our South Orange Gazebo annual summer long free live concert series invites jazz music lovers to soak up some first-rate jazz hosted by jazz musicians that love what they do and love to do it for you.

Also, for those not directly connected to a band, for those free on a weekday or Sunday night, for those feeling the urge to perform, we have implemented a Friday or Saturday Jazz Jam, along with monthly Sunday Special Jazz performances where folks can come on thru and join in a special Sunday evening – 6 – 9 PM Jazz Jam hosted by several seasoned Jazz professionals.  So, check the schedule and Facebook pages for these special Jazz Jam performances.

Overall our 2018 lineup of Downtown after Sundown – Jazz On Sloan performers have graced the stages of many prestigious local area venues such as The NJ State Theater, NJPAC, along with venues across the country from the Smithsonian, the Kennedy Center, The Kimmel Center, the Blue Note, Carnegie Hall, the Iridium, Kitano, SMOKE, Birdland, Jazz mobile, Smalls and more. They have played at numerous festivals around the country from San Diego, Texas, El Paso, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and many venues in between and they toured Germany, Italy and Japan and other venues around the world.  This 2018 seasons is shaping up to feature some of the best local and national professional jazz musicians in our area that are coming out to grace our intimate South Orange Gazebo with some top notch and intimate jazz performances. We urge you to come on out, get up close and personal and enjoy a night of jazz on us.
