SUMMARY:Morris Museum - Back Deck Presents Evan Sherman
DESCRIPTION:Back Deck Presents Evan Sherman\n\n\n\nSold out performance last year\, get your tickets early. \n\n\n\n\n\nEvan Sherman is an accomplished American drummer\, bandleader\, and arranger. Born in 1993\, he began playing drums at the age of five and started performing professionally by the time he was 13. Over the years\, he has toured and recorded with renowned artists like Ron Carter\, Cyrus Chestnut\, Roy Hargrove\, and Wynton Marsalis. \n\n\n\nIn 2014\, Sherman founded the Evan Sherman Big Band\, a 16-piece ensemble featuring both rising stars and seasoned musicians. The band has performed at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center and the Blue Note\, and even recorded Duke Ellington’s “Queen’s Suite” in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. \n\n\n\nAccording to Sherman\, “I met (another 2025 back deck performer) legendary bassist John Lee (who played with Dizzy Gillespie for many years) when I was 15\, and he has been a guiding mentor ever since. During high school\, I played weekly with his band in South Orange and got to play and meet most of the living jazz masters. When I was 18\, John brought me to Russia to play my first gig with the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band.” \n\n\n\nSherman is also a passionate educator\, teaching privately and conducting clinics worldwide. His contributions to jazz have earned him recognition as a versatile and talented musician. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Back Deck Returns!\n\n\n\nEntering its sixth year\, the popular Back Deck concert series returns with a robust season of performances featuring big international names and regional superstars in jazz\, classical\, and genres in-between. Under the direction of Producer Gregory Burrus\, the 2025 season promises a dynamic variety of memorable concerts under the stars. Patrons are invited to bring chairs\, set up picnics\, and enjoy the sunset for this special program. \n\n\n\nSince launching in July 2020\, The Back Deck has presented over 72 performances of critically acclaimed artists\, welcomed more than 11\,000 patrons\, and received critical praise from local and national media. The series has presented established artists and rising stars with several ensembles going on to receive national acclaim.
