Don’t miss this epic release event brought to you by Rutgers IJS! \n\n\nRutgers IJS Presents Dave Schumacher and Cubeye CD Pre-release – Agua Con Gas\n \nA night of deep groove\, global rhythm\, and fearless improvisation arrives at Rutgers University–Newark as the Institute of Jazz Studies proudly presents Cubeye in celebration of their electrifying new release\, Agua Con Gas. \nVeteran baritone saxophonist Dave Schumacher brings his all star ensemble\, Cubeye\, to Clement’s for his new CD release -“Smokin’ in the Sky” \n \nABOUT DAVE SCHUMACHER \nAs a freelance Baritone Saxophonist\, Chicago native Dave Schumacher has been active on the New York scene for more than 40 years. He has performed for audiences in more than 465 cities in 41 countries on 5 continents. As a member of Lionel Hampton’s Orchestra from 1983 to 1987 he toured the Americas and Europe. He again toured with Hamp in 1988 and 1989. A highlight in Dave’s career was traveling with the Art Blakey Big Band to Japan in 1987 to perform at the Mt. Fuji Jazz Festival. \nDave was an original member of Harry Connick\, Jr.’s Orchestra from its beginnings in 1990 until 2009. He has thrilled audiences touring with Harry in North America\, Europe\, Asia (Japan\, China\, Malaysia\, Singapore\, the Philippines and South Korea) and Australia. His baritone sax can be heard on each of these Harry Connick\, Jr.\, Columbia recordings: Oh My NOLA\, Chanson du Vieux Carré\, Only You\, When My Heart Finds Christmas\, Come By Me\, Blue Light Red Light\, Songs I Heard\, Thou Shalt Not\, What A Night and others. \nAs a freelance artist Dave was a touring member of the T.S. Monk on Monk Ensemble from 1999 to 2000 touring the U.S. and Europe\, as well as touring Europe with the Tom Harrell Octet in 2000. Dave has also done freelance work with Dizzy Gillespie\, Howard Johnson’s Beartones\, Nicholas Payton’s Louis Armstrong Tribute Big Band\, Joe Lovano’s 52nd Street Themes Nonet\, the groups of Jack McDuff\, Eddie Gladden\, Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra\, Joey DeFrancesco\, Chico O’Farrill’s Afro-Cuban Big Band\, Tom Harrell Big Band\, Lin Halliday and many others. \nAs a leader and composer/arranger\, Dave has recorded 3 CD’s – Every Corner and from Another Life on the Amosaya Music label and Endangered Species on Summit Records. Dave has recorded as a sideman with Lionel Hampton\, Harry Connick\, Jr.\, Tom Harrell\, Scott Whitfield\, Jason Lindner\, Mel Torme\, Ben Wolfe and vocalist Billy Carrion among others. \nSchumacher has received two performance grants from The National Endowment for the Arts. \nAs an educator Dave is currently the Director of Jazz Workshops for the New Jersey Youth Symphony. Dave was the inaugural Director of the New Jersey Youth Symphony Jazz program in 2013. He also maintains an active studio of private students of saxophone\, clarinet\, flute and improvisation at the Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts in New Jersey. Dave has been teaching private students for close to forty years.

Born in New York City on September 27\, 1957\, Weldon’s journey began with a spark—ignited at age 14 when his father took him to see Stan Getz at the Village Vanguard. That moment set the course for a life steeped in swing\, soul\, and bebop brilliance. \n\n\n\nA graduate of the Rutgers University Jazz Studies Program\, Weldon launched his professional career in 1981 with the legendary Lionel Hampton Orchestra\, continuing his tenure with Hamp into the new millennium. He then joined Jack McDuff’s Heatin’ System\, cementing his reputation as a go-to tenor for organ-driven grooves. \n\n\n\nWeldon’s résumé reads like a jazz hall of fame: he’s collaborated with Jimmy McGriff\, Joey DeFrancesco\, Dr. Lonnie Smith\, George Benson\, Mel Tormé\, Roy Haynes\, and Cedar Walton\, among countless others. In 1990\, he became a charter member and featured soloist in Harry Connick Jr.’s big band\, touring globally and appearing in Connick’s Broadway production Thou Shalt Not and daytime TV show HARRY. \n\n\n\nWith eight albums as a leader—including On the Move\, which charted on JazzWeek—Weldon continues to perform worldwide\, captivating audiences with his warm\, thunderous tone and magnetic stage presence. Whether roaring through uptempo burners or caressing ballads with velvet finesse\, Jerry Weldon is a tenor force who brings the music to life—and the audience along for the ride.

See you there! \n\n\n\n\n  Laura Dreyer is a saxophonist\, flutist\, composer\, and educator originally from the San Francisco Bay Area who has become a vibrant and influential voice on the New York jazz scene. A dynamic bandleader and versatile woodwind artist\, she has performed with an extraordinary range of musicians\, including Dr. Billy Taylor\, Dom Salvador\, Amaro Freitas\, Helcio Milito\, Portinho\, Bossa PDX\, Walter Bishop Jr.\, Mel Lewis\, Robert Palmer\, Nnenna Freelon\, James McBride\, and The Diva Jazz Orchestra. As a leader and producer\, Dreyer has released five acclaimed albums—Mysterious Encounter\, Free Flying Bird\, Sax in the City\, Vida. Arte. Amor.\, and her latest\, Água e Sol. She is also featured on Dom Salvador’s award‑winning recording The Art of Samba Jazz\, honored with the Prêmio da Música Brasileira for Best Instrumental Recording. A graduate of Berklee College of Music and SUNY Empire State College\, Dreyer studied with Joe Henderson\, Joe Lovano\, Dennis Kaufman\, Lyle Mays\, and Jim McNeely\, mentors who helped shape her distinctive musical voice. Recently\, she toured with The Manhattan Transfer featuring The Diva Jazz Orchestra and appeared with Dom Salvador at the Cerrado Jazz Festival and SESC Pompéia in Brazil. Today\, Dreyer continues to tour nationally and internationally as a performer\, composer\, and clinician\, bringing artistic depth\, versatility\, and a global perspective to every stage she graces. \n\n\n\nKate Cosco is a New York City–based jazz pianist and composer whose professional work spans jazz\, pop\, and contemporary styles. She began classical piano studies at age five and went on to earn a degree in piano and audio engineering from Indiana University\, followed by a master’s degree in jazz piano performance from the University of Memphis. An active performer\, Cosco appears regularly in NYC jazz clubs and concert venues and has toured with renowned artists including The Four Tops\, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons\, The Temptations\, Little Anthony and The Imperials\, and Ben E. King. Her acclaimed trio recording Soul Eyes highlights her expressive touch and musical sensitivity. Cosco has been featured multiple times at the International Women in Jazz and Lady Got Chops festivals\, and she recently co‑hosted a jazz workshop at the Barry Harris Institute in Rome\, where she also performed with her trio at Caffè Lettrario. In New York\, she maintains a piano residency at Robert at MAD restaurant and frequently leads ensembles at Cellar Dog\, Smalls\, Mezzrow\, Ornithology\, and other notable jazz rooms. Alongside her performance career\, she serves as an adjunct professor in the jazz department at Montclair State University\, continuing to shape the next generation of musicians.
