SUMMARY:MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL Downtown Jamboree produced by Jazz House Kids
DESCRIPTION:Jazz at its best!!! Hope to ee you around the festival. \n\n\n\n\n\nJAZZ HOUSE KiDS Announces Full Lineup  \n\n\n\n+ New Site for September 13  \n\n\n\nMONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL Downtown Jamboree + Block Party \n\n\n\nLuisito Quintero \n\n\n\nChristian McBride & Ursa Major \n\n\n\nJazzmeia Horn Quartet \n\n\n\nLakecia Benjamin and Phoenix \n\n\n\nJAZZ HOUSE Collective Celebrates Moody \n\n\n\nThe Gotham Kings \n\n\n\n50+ Emerging Musicians from JAZZ HOUSE \n\n\n\nBlock Party with DJ Brother Mister + DJ Prince Hakim \n\n\n\nJuly 31\, 2025: Today\, the nationally-recognized nonprofit organization JAZZ HOUSE KiDS announced the full lineup of the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL Downtown Jamboree and Block Party\, taking place in downtown Montclair\, NJ on September 13.  \n\n\n\nThe Gotham Kings led by trumpeter and two-time GRAMMY nominated Alphonso Horne kicks off the Downtown Jamboree with the sounds of New Orleans and his high energy second line band. This year’s headliners performing on the McBride’s World at Sea Main Stage include acclaimed saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin & Phoenix with a meld of jazz\, R&B and funk; the multi-awarding winning vocalist Jazzmeia Horn; Christian McBride’s Ursa Major\, the nine-time GRAMMY winner’s bold multi-generational quintet; and the JAZZ HOUSE Collective celebrating the music of this year’s Legacy Artist\, New Jersey’s own James Moody.   \n\n\n\nNewly added to the stellar Jamboree headliner lineup is Luisito Quintero & Third Element\, the GRAMMY-winning master percussionist from Venezuela\, who will bring the crowd to its feet with his electrifying Afro-Latin rhythms and unmatched musicality.   \n\n\n\nThere is more music on the Emerging Musicians Stage\, where more than 50 young artists from the JAZZ HOUSE KiDS program ages 14 to 25 will be featured\, including the debut of this year’s alumni JAZZ HOUSE All-Stars\, a group of accomplished musicians who will set sail in January 2026 on McBride’s World at Sea\, bringing the thrill of live performance across the Caribbean and performing on the same stage as some of the hottest stars today including Samara Joy\, Ledisi\, Benny Green\, Cecile McLorin Salvant and the Christian McBride Big Band. \n\n\n\nMcBride is the JAZZ HOUSE Artistic Director and Curator of the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FEST. Earlier this month\, NPR’s Morning Edition aired an interview with McBride and JAZZ HOUSE KiDS Founder Melissa Walker about the organization and its talented alumni making waves in the jazz world including Matthew Whitaker\, Isaiah Thompson\, Julian Lee and Zoe Obadia.    \n\n\n\n“This year’s MONTCLAIR JAZZ FEST lineup is a thrilling showcase of jazz’s boundless creativity.  World-class artists and up-and-coming musicians bring their bold voices and magic to the stage\, reflecting the heartbeat of this culturally-rich community full of fans that have supported this festival for more than 15 years. It’s not just a celebration of world-class talent but of the joyful\, unifying spirit of jazz that continues to bring us all together.”   \n\n\n\nChristian McBride\, Artistic Director + Curator  \n\n\n\nBut keeping pace with the festival’s success and popularity has required tremendous effort and resources. For the first time\, due to today’s volatile climate and uncertainty\, several committed government and corporate sponsors—including the National Endowment for the Arts—have rescinded funding\, requiring innovation\, adjustments\, and new partnerships to sustain the Festival. \n\n\n\nDespite challenging times and ongoing uncertainty in arts funding\, JAZZ HOUSE KiDS remains steadfast in its mission: to bring world-class jazz to Montclair\, attract friends and fans from far and wide\, and keep its promise that the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FEST remains a No Tickets Required event —free and open to all—in celebration of the rich multicultural heritage of our nation. \n\n\n\nThis year\, the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL unveils many new surprises and pivots to an exciting new chapter\, deepening its roots in the heart of Montclair through two dynamic collaborations: the Wellmont Theater for the summer and BDP Holdings’ Lackawanna Station for September. \n\n\n\nMONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL teamed up with the Wellmont and the New Jersey Hall of Fame in June\, July\, and August for a series of 10 free outdoor concerts at the Wellmont Arts Plaza\, including the TD Bank-presented MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL Soundcheck Series featuring New Jazz Underground on July 30 and the upcoming series closer featuring Cuban percussionist and singer Pedrito Martinez on August 20. \n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, September 13 the Downtown Jamboree + Block Party will move to its new site on the eight-acre historic Lackawanna Station property with the closing of the adjacent Essex County road Grove Street\, transforming once again the downtown corridor of Montclair into a vibrant arts and culture hub. \n\n\n\n“Our renewed collaborations with longtime partners and supporters reflect the strength of our community and our shared commitment to Montclair’s renowned status as a destination for the arts. Over the years\, MONTCLAIR JAZZ FEST and its fans have weathered electrical storms\, heat waves and even a State of Emergency. We were proud to be one of the first large-scale events to safely bring people together after the pandemic. This year\, with the same spirit\, grit\, and determination\, we’re once again bringing a powerful cultural offering that celebrates the best of who we are—as individuals\, as one family—and champions the next generation of young musicians and future leaders.” \n\n\n\nMelissa Walker\, Founder + President of JAZZ HOUSE KiDS \n\n\n\nAnd the brainchild of the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL \n\n\n\nFrom its humble beginnings in 2010 as a student concert in Nishuane Park with a few hundred people\, to last year’s glorious 15th Anniversary celebration welcoming more than 26\,000 attendees\, and activating over $1.5M to support the local economy\, MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL is recognized as one of the most diverse\, inclusive events in the region.  Produced by the nationally-acclaimed jazz education and performance organization JAZZ HOUSE KiDS\, now in its twenty-third year\, the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL remains free and open to the public — thanks to the strength of both public and private partnerships.  \n\n\n\nInside\, the recently reactivated Lackawanna Station is filled with art\, food and shops by local entrepreneurs\, while outside\, the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL is pulsing with energy — 8 hours of world-class jazz on two outdoor stages followed by a funk + soul dance party kicked of by our very own\, Christian McBride\, DJ Brother Mister followed by DJ Prince Hakim; 150+ artisan and food vendors in the Rao’s Homemade Marketplace; specialty jazz cocktails from Allied Beverage brands and the official 2025 Montclair Jazz Brew from Montclair Brewery at Jazz Bars; the Family Jazz Discovery Zone with community partners Montclair Art Museum\, Montclair Public Library\, Montclair YMCA\, and more; official festival merch; VIP and membership experiences with Egan & Sons; and many new surprises to come.  \n\n\n\nNew this year\, the day’s festivities kick off with Gotham Kings’ New Orleans styled second line band marching down Bloomfield Avenue from Church Street and Park Avenue to the new site at Lackawanna Plaza. \n\n\n\n“I’m proud to support the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL and the incredible work of JAZZ HOUSE KiDS in bringing the arts to our township. This event is a beautiful reflection of Montclair’s creative spirit and community pride\, uniting people from all backgrounds through the power of music. I look forward to it every year as a celebration of summer\, culture\, and connection.” \n\n\n\nMayor Dr. Baskerville\, Montclair Township \n\n\n\n“BDP Holdings is proud to once again bring the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FEST to the newly activated Lackawanna Station. Honoring the power of music\, art and community has always been a cornerstone of BDP’s work\, including bringing the Festival downtown\, alongside the rest of the team\, in 2021. Come see the murals of globally celebrated artists Jerkface\, Jeks\, D*Face\, BK Foxx\, Sheryo & Yok and more\, plus exciting installations of various mediums throughout the Station. Listen\, dance\, shop\, eat and enjoy the beauty of Montclair’s unique community at this year’s MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL!  \n\n\n\nDavid Placek\, CEO\, BDP Holdings \n\n\n\nBack by popular demand\, the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL will feature a giant Block Party as DJ Brother Mister (AKA Christian McBride) and New Jersey’s own DJ Prince Hakim take over the Signature Cruise Experiences Main Stage for a dynamic funk & soul dance party at 8:00 pm following eight hours of live jazz.   \n\n\n\nEarlier this month\, United Airlines\, official airlines of the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FEST\, sponsored JAZZ HOUSE KiDS’ first European tour with 20 members of its award-winning JAZZ HOUSE Big Band in a six-city tour through Italy\, where they had the honor of playing at the historic Umbria Jazz Festival and Ancona Jazz Festival\, and meeting and performing alongside legends like Dianne Reeves\, Herbie Hancock\, Angélique Kidjo\, Samara Joy\, and Gregory Porter.  \n\n\n\nTogether with our renewed partnerships — Wellmont Plaza\, BDP Holdings\, and Montclair Center BID — and the support and advocacy of NJ State representatives\, the County of Essex\, Montclair Township\, Montclair Center BID\, NJEDA\, a host of corporate sponsors — Xfinity\, Rao’s Homemade\, Lincoln of Wayne\, Signature Cruise Experiences\, United Airlines\, Optimum and Manhattan Mechanical Contractors— local businesses and individual patrons\, MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL welcomes all who want to celebrate America’s rich history of jazz\, youth development and community building.  \n\n\n\nCelebrated Newark\, New Jersey native\, centennial artist and face of the 2025 MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL is revered saxophonist James Moody\, who is depicted in the festival artwork by visual artist in residence Andres Chaparro. In 2011\, his wife Linda Moody founded the James Moody Jazz Scholarship for New Jersey in memory of her late husband. Partnered with JAZZ HOUSE KiDS\, this award provides a $10\,000 scholarship for an outstanding graduating senior heading to college who embodies the qualities that the NEA Jazz Master expressed throughout his life and music – musicianship\, creativity\, leadership and community involvement.  \n\n\n\nHOW TO GET INVOLVED! \n\n\n\nThe JAZZ HOUSE “All Access Pass” Membership Program for individuals and local businesses provides great perks at the 2025 MONTCLAIR JAZZ FEST Soundcheck Series concerts this summer and the Downtown Jamboree and Block Party in September as well as special benefits to JAZZ HOUSE events all year long. \n\n\n\nFor more information on how to get involved as a volunteer\, sponsor\, vendor and \n\n\n\nbusiness or individual supporter\, visit the website www.montclairjazzfestival.org and download the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL App in the Google or Apple store.   \n\n\n\n# # # \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL DOWNTOWN JAMBOREE +  \n\n\n\nBLOCK PARTY HEADLINERS \n\n\n\n@ Lackawanna Plaza | September 13\, 2025  \n\n\n\n2nd LINE New Orleans style band FROM CHURCH + PARK  \n\n\n\nto LACKAWANNA FESTIVAL SITE | 11:00 AM \n\n\n\nAlphonso Horne & Gotham Kings  \n\n\n\nSIGNATURE CRUISES DOWNTOWN STAGE | 12:00 – 8:00 PM \n\n\n\nJAZZ HOUSE Collective Celebrates Moody \n\n\n\nJazzmeia Horn* \n\n\n\nChristian McBride and Ursa Major \n\n\n\nLuisito Quintero \n\n\n\nLakisha Benjamin and Phoenix \n\n\n\nDOWNTOWN STAGE | 8:00 – 10:00 PM \n\n\n\nD.J. The band has performed at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center and the Blue Note\, and even recorded Duke Ellington’s “Queen’s Suite” in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. \n\n\n\nAccording to Sherman\, “I met (another 2025 back deck performer) legendary bassist John Lee (who played with Dizzy Gillespie for many years) when I was 15\, and he has been a guiding mentor ever since. During high school\, I played weekly with his band in South Orange and got to play and meet most of the living jazz masters. When I was 18\, John brought me to Russia to play my first gig with the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band.” \n\n\n\nSherman is also a passionate educator\, teaching privately and conducting clinics worldwide. His contributions to jazz have earned him recognition as a versatile and talented musician. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Back Deck Returns!\n\n\n\nEntering its sixth year\, the popular Back Deck concert series returns with a robust season of performances featuring big international names and regional superstars in jazz\, classical\, and genres in-between. Under the direction of Producer Gregory Burrus\, the 2025 season promises a dynamic variety of memorable concerts under the stars. The series has presented established artists and rising stars with several ensembles going on to receive national acclaim. With The Golden Hoops book drive\, I want every child to feel a circle of support and know their inner magic shines brightest of all.” \n\n\n\n— Jen Hayes Lee \n\n\n\nJoin us for a powerful evening at Maplewood’s Words Bookstore as we celebrate the debut of Jen Hayes Lee’s HarperCollins release\, The Golden Hoops! \n\n\n\nThis event brings together community\, culture\, and storytelling in one unforgettable gathering. Come meet the author\, hear excerpts from this inspiring new book\, and connect with fellow readers and creatives. Let’s uplift local voices and celebrate literary excellence—see you there! \n\n\n\nBring your young ones and see the details below \n\n\n\nNEW YORK\, NY\, UNITED STATES\, September 8\, 2025 /EINPresswire.com/ — What happens when a little girl slips on her first pair of golden hoops? For debut author and content strategist Jen Hayes Lee\, it is nothing short of magic. \n\n\n\nThe Golden Hoops (HarperCollins\, September 2\, 2025)\, written by Jen Hayes Lee and illustrated by Mokshini\, follows young Janey on a whimsical adventure after one of her new hoop earrings goes missing. In searching for her hoop\, Janey discovers something even more powerful: the magic that has always been within her. \n\n\n\nRadiant\, joyful\, and affirming\, The Golden Hoops is a loving ode to a cultural tradition that spans generations. With lush illustrations by Mokshini and Lee’s authentic voice as a storyteller and parenting leader\, this debut picture book is positioned to become a cultural touchstone for families everywhere. \n\n\n\nLaunch highlights– Week-one milestone: Reached #1 on Amazon’s New Releases in Children’s Black and African American Story Books.– Widespread early love: Shared by influential thought leaders including Tabitha Brown\, Abby Phillip\, and Charnaie Gordon (Here We Read).– Sisterhood circle event: A private reception hosted by Sheereen Miller Russell on September 5\, 2025 honored the book’s theme and author. [Getty Images] \n\n\n\nEarly praise“In her debut picture book\, Jen Hayes Lee captures perfectly the magic\, the legacy\, and a universal rite of passage for brilliant Black girls all over the world.”— Derrick Barnes\, two-time Kirkus Prize winner\, Newbery Honoree\, and National Book Award Finalist \n\n\n\n“I’m beyond inspired. What a beautiful tale that will no doubt become an instant classic cherished for generations to come.”— Julee Wilson Wareham\, Beauty Editor-At-Large\, Cosmopolitan \n\n\n\nA personal legacyJaney\, the book’s heroine\, is named for Lee’s late mother\, Dr. Irma J. Bland\, a physician who died of breast cancer at 55. Lee was 21. That loss\, and the family’s ongoing journey with breast cancer\, infuses The Golden Hoops with legacy\, resilience\, and love across generations. \n\n\n\nAt 39\, the same age her mother was at diagnosis\, Lee tested positive for the BRCA2 gene mutation and chose a preventative double mastectomy. “For me\, naming Janey was a way of honoring my mom and creating a circle between her story\, my story\, and the story I want children everywhere to know: that their magic is real\, and that their light is worth protecting\,” Lee shares. \n\n\n\nA movement beyond the bookTo mark the release\, Lee launched The Golden Hoops Book Drive\, a national campaign that brings the book and author visits to children ages 4 to 8. The initiative prioritizes under-resourced communities and partners with BIPOC and women-owned bookstores to center representation\, access\, and joy. \n\n\n\n“Golden hoops are more than jewelry\,” Lee says. “They are symbols of pride\, possibility and connection. With The Golden Hoops book drive\, I want every child to feel surrounded by support and know their inner magic shines brightest of all.” \n\n\n\nWhy this matters– Only 18% of Black and 23% of Hispanic fourth graders read at or above grade level. (National Assessment of Educational Progress) \n\n\n\nBooks that reflect a child’s identity support social-emotional growth\, empathy\, and confidence. The Golden Hoops Book Drive meets this need by nurturing imagination and belonging. \n\n\n\nGet InvolvedCorporations and community advocates are invited to take part:– Donate: Every contribution brings books to more children.– Nominate: Recommend a teacher\, library\, or youth program.– Sponsor: Fund a book giveaway or an author visit.– Host: Organize a school event or community giveaway. \n\n\n\nThe Golden Hoops Book Drive is fiscally sponsored by Zora’s House\, a nonprofit coworking and community space for women of color\, ensuring all contributions are fully tax deductible. \n\n\n\nAbout the author\n\n\n\nJen Hayes Lee is an author\, content strategist\, and marketing executive focused on inclusive\, culturally relevant storytelling. As Head of Marketing and Content at The Bump\, she has led initiatives that shape how families are seen and celebrated. A proud New Orleanian now based in New Jersey with her husband and three sons\, Lee is also the founder of Bestow\, a brand inspired by her love of hoop earrings. \n\n\n\nBook detailsThe Golden HoopsWritten by Jen Hayes Lee\, Illustrated by MokshiniHarperCollins\, September 2\, 2025Ages 4 to 8 | ISBN 9780063326750 \n\n\n\nFor media and sponsorship inquiries\, contact Rae Chesny: rae@litcoconsulting.com. \n\n\n\nJennifer LeeGolden Hoop Ventures+1 404-886-7053email us hereVisit us on social media:LinkedInInstagramOther
