DESCRIPTION:Steve Nelson \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis outstanding vibraphonist and composer was born in Pittsburgh \, Pennsylvania \, in 1954. He started playing piano and vibes as a teenager\, and he progressed quickly enough as to play with guitar-legend Grant Green. \n\n\n\nHe graduated from Rutgers University with both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in music and his teaching activities have included a position at Princeton University . As a resident of the New York area he has performed and recorded with many great musicians including Kenny Barron\, Bobby Watson\, Mulgrew Miller\, David Fathead Newman\, Johnny Griffin and Jackie McLean. He is currently a member of The Dave Holland’s Band\, Mulgrew Miller’s Wingspan\, and the Lewis Nash Trio. \n\n\n\nHe has appeared at concerts and festivals worldwide and has made three recordings as the leader of his own group. His recordings as a leader include Live At Acireale (Red Records)\, Full Nelson (Sunnyside) and Communications (Criss Cross). Recordings with others include Mulgrew Miller\, David “Fathead” Newman\, Kenny Barron\, Jackie McLean and Johnny Griffin

Theater credits include principal roles in: Dream Girls\, Smokey Joes Café\, Ragtime\, Swing\, Aida\, and an encore performance as Lena Younger Mama in Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun. Join Us. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLeonieke Scheuble is a gifted pianist and jazz organist who has a rare talent for blues and jazz improvisation at an unusually young age. Leonieke was named “Best Up and Coming Young Artist”-Hothouse NYC Fans Decision Awards 2015\, (her most prestigious honor to date). May 10\, 2016 had Leonieke honored and featured in film for an audience of over 1\,000 at the TEDx TALK Easton\, PA event. Later that year\, she performed and spoke for another TED x Event which was filmed for PBS and can be viewed at https://youtu.be/soqmMJIL_NY.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRecent years have seen Leonieke develop into a jazz lecturer and featured artist at several high profile Jazz Festivals. They include the Jazz Forum Festival (2021) and the Jazz Arts Project Summer Festival\, both featuring her quintet with legendary bassist\, Bill Crow.  Her “Generations of Jazz” Trio (also with bassist\, Bill Crow) is gaining much attention in the Jazz community\, and was selected as the cover of the Jersey Jazz Journal (June 2021) issue along with a featured article by Gerry Mulligan biographer\, Sanford Josephson. As a saxophonist\, MIKE LEE has been a part of the New York jazz scene for more than 30 years. He has played with some of the great luminaries of the music and currently performs regularly with Oliver Lake\, Wallace Roney\, Josh Evans Big Band\, Dave Stryker and Loston Harris. DESCRIPTION:Event cancelled due to inclement weather -Rain \n\n\n\nLeonieke Scheuble – Organist Pianist\n\n\n\nNina Simone learned to play music by ear\, which is not normally accepted\, and Nina did not let that hold her back. Our Generations of Jazz  bandleader is Leonieke Scheuble who did not formally learn to play music. As her dad recounted\, Leonieke (phonetically pronounced “lay-o-nee-ka”) Scheuble started to play piano after being inspired by “Ray\,” a movie based on the life of Ray Charles. Without any prior musical training\, she began to spend great lengths of time at the piano creating pieces that were rhythmically interesting and compositionally balanced. She was 5 or 6. \n\n\n\nAs she said within her No Boundaries | Leonieke Scheuble | TEDxLehighRiver when she was 13\, Jazz is her classroom and the learning as you go process is what makes Jazz so special and you learn in the moment. Take a listen. It’s very enlightening\, informative and has a wonderful piano performance. The bottom line is Leonieke encourages children and adults alike to think\, dream\, and achieve without boundaries. \n\n\n\nLeonieke was honored to be selected by Carnegie Hall/Weill Music Institute as an alternate musician for their 2018 NYO JAZZ season. We are proud to present the Jacquie Lee at the Downtown Cranford Clock. In 2019 at Garfield Middle school Jacquie\, who has been playing Violin for 11 years\, received Jazz Soloist Downbeat Student Music Award for an Outstanding Performance. Jacquie has also been a member of Jazz House Kids and is a member of a family of musicians which has truly helped her honed her musicianship. The following stellar list of musicians will perform in this wonderful event featuring Jacquie Lee on Violin. \n\n\n\nSeniar Raines on bass\,  \n\n\n\nDerick Campos on guitar\, and  \n\n\n\nMecadon Mccune on drums. \n\n\n\nHer sudden emergence as a singer in the past year has been somewhat of a shock to all of us in our family and in the Jazz House community.—Mike Lee \n\n\n\nWhen Jacquie Lee was nine years old\, she went with her family to see violinist Regina Carter at Birdland. “I had never felt a connection to jazz at that point\,” she recalled\, “but I saw someone who was a woman and a violinist playing jazz. I idolized her for a long time. We had family connections\, and I would get to do private lessons and group lessons with her. She’s so incredible and a very\, very nice person.” \n\n\n\nLee\, now 17\, has actually been playing violin since she was two years old. “I don’t think I had much choice in the matter\,” she said. Her mother Rebecca is a classical violinist; her father Mike is a jazz tenor saxophonist. “My mom started both of my brothers and me on the violin\,” she explained\, “because she believed it was important for all of us to get a grasp of music. In the early part of my life\, I was very strongly averse to playing jazz because both of my brothers did it\, and my dad did it.” Her brother Julian (27) is a saxophonist and her brother Matt (21) is a drummer. “Then\,” she continued\, “I got to that age where I really wanted to be like my brothers.” \n\n\n\nIn her freshman year at Montclair High School\, “Covid happened. I was 14\, and that’s when my dad stopped working every night. Covid was terrible for a lot of people and for us as well\, but my dad could put a lot of focus into helping me practice and stuff. She performs and tours nationally with her talented band for the last 10 years and is releasing her 8th single and EP “Forever Young” in 2020. \n\n\n\nBriar has performed and opened for numerous national acts like the Marshall Tucker band\, BlackBerry Smoke\, Chris Janson\, Parmalee\, Lindsey Ell\, Jerrod Niemann\, Lorrie Morgan\, Rodney Atkins\, Granger Smith\, Chase Bryant\, Lee Brice\, Big Country\, Keifer Sutherland\, Locash\, Outshyne\, Blackjack Billy\, the Outlaws\, and Cassadee Pope. \n\n\n\nBio \n\n\n\nNikki Briar\, born Nicole Signorella on May 23rd has truly been passionately involved with music her entire life. Her father\, Joseph\, made his living as a touring drummer for a Motown band called the Victorians\, while mother Oksana\, was a classically trained pianist and artist. From a very young age\, Briar was influenced and connected best with artists such as Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston. Her parents say that the way she learned to speak was by memorizing and singing along to her favorite songs on her record player. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA young Briar took part in every performing event that she could\, singing in the choir and becoming the first female drummer in her middle school. In sixth grade\, she started learning to play the guitar from her uncle\, Anthony Signorella. Briar went to Arthur L. Johnson for her regular high school experience in Clark\, NJ. She also attended the Gifted and Talented program at a votech school where she participating in the highly praised musical theater department. She then went on to graduate from Seton Hall University with a degree in Special and Elementary Education\, minoring in Music for voice and guitar. Since graduating\, Nikki Briar has been teaching music to young children at the New Jersey Workshop of the Arts and currently attends Graduate School of Seton Hall University. She sings at events for the New Jersey National Guard and is a proud Army wife. \n\n\n\nWhen asked why she decided to pursue a career in country music\, Briar simply said: “I love the passion and the truth in country music. I love the story songs that can either make you laugh hysterically or bring you to tears. After all\, music is about emotion\, and I want my audience to feel something when they hear me sing.” \n\n\n\nNikki Briar currently resides in New Jersey with husband Angelo Martinez who is her inspiration and number one fan. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCranford Summer Sounds \n\n\n\nWhether you arrive by car\, walking or the 3 minute away Cranford NJ Transit Station\, this is a walkable town with lots of businesses to see and enjoy and is a very convenient place to enjoy some live live music. \n\n\n\nWalk across the street\, grab a bite from a local restaurant\, settle in to your favorite lawn chair or arrive early and grab a yellow park seat for these special evening concerts in downtown Cranford.
