DESCRIPTION:The soulful stylings of James Austin Jr.\, reveal his jazz pedigree and gospel roots.  James\, originally from Chicago\, is an accomplished pianist and bandleader.  He honed his craft under the tutelage of a number of legendary musicians\, including extensive study with renowned jazz educator\, Barry Harris.  In recognition of his highly skilled musicianship\, James has received numerous accolades and awards\, including the honor of being selected as a semi-finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano competition. \n\n\n\nJames has performed alongside an illustrious list of singers and musicians in diverse settings throughout the world\, including numerous celebrity functions and televised shows.  He recently served as pianist and arranger for two star-studded concerts at Carnegie Hall under the baton of esteemed musical director\, Ray Chew.  James is regularly featured in the New York City area as a pianist and bandleader for various live concerts\, theatrical performances\, and civic and charitable events.  He has curated and led the NJPAC Jazz Jam series since its inception.  For the past couple of years\, he has also served as musical director for jazz phenom Miss Alexis Morrast. \n\n\n\nSongs in the Key of Wonder\, James’ debut album\, showcases his tasteful instrumental arrangements of a selection of classic compositions from the songbook of the great Stevie Wonder.  James regards Stevie Wonder as one of the greatest composers of our time.  Others have covered Stevie’s songs\, however\, James’ arrangements have a particularly appealing flavor and infectious groove.’\ \n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite

DESCRIPTION:As a young man growing up in Louisville\, Kentucky in the 1970s\, Don Braden discovered the music of both Earth\, Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder.  It immediately captured his heart\, mind\, and soul. The esteemed saxophonist explains that “the messages within their music built around core themes such as strength\, love\, and joy\, are imbued with African American spirit\, and yet embody a wide variety of human emotions and experience.  They are delivered with power\, artistry\, and elegance via memorable and singable melodies\, rich harmonies\, compelling lyrics\, infectious grooves\, outstanding arrangements\, and superb performances.”  While Braden’s career grew in  the direction of straight-ahead Jazz\, he continued to listen to and study the music of his early musical heroes.  His show “Earth Wind and Wonder” is Braden’s tribute to these beloved\, influential Jazz artists.

DESCRIPTION:Born into a musical family\, Chris Beck\, a native of Philadelphia has been exposed to an assortment of music genres. At a young age he acknowledged his strong desire for music and accepted his responsibility to continue in the legacy of his grandfather the late Elder Charles Beck. He was influenced by his high school teacher to continue in jazz drum studies. Mr. Beck then pursued a career in music\, where at Temple University he earned a Bachelor of Music in percussion performance. While at Temple he developed a friendship with mentor Mr. Terell Stafford. Under Stafford’s instruction\, he began to transcribe and increased his listening of the master jazz drummers. \n\n\n\nHe currently works with various artists such as\, Tim Warfield\, Terell Stafford\, Orrin Evans\, Duane Eubanks\, Philadelphia legend Bootsie Barnes and Latin jazz pianist Elio Villafranca and a host of other musicians from both Philadelphia and New York

DESCRIPTION:From 1984 thru 1993\, John Lee was Dizzy Gillespie’s bassist. Performing and recording in the trumpet master’s various bands including the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet\, Dizzy Gillespie Big Band\, and Dizzy’s Grammy Award winning United Nation Orchestra. After Dizzy’s passing\, his family asked John to create an ongoing tribute to the great man and his music—and the concept for the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars was born. John is the bassist and director ofthe Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars\, Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band\, and the Dizzy Gillespie Afro-Latin Experience. John has also worked in the bands of Gary Bartz\, Larry Coryell\, Jon Faddis\, Aretha Franklin\, Roberta Gambarini\, Roy Hargrove\, Jimmy Heath\, Gregory Hines\, Miriam Makeba\, James Moody\, Claudio Roditi\, Sonny Rollins\, and McCoy Tyner. John is also a Grammy Award winning record producer and audio engineer. He has produced over 100 recordings.
