DESCRIPTION:Kate Curran is a musically voracious vocalist and bandleader who regularly performs throughout the Tri state area as well as nationally with Louis Prima Jr and the Witnesses.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBorn in Brooklyn\, NY\, Kate’s home was constantly filled with music of all genres\, but an early love of the Great American Songbook and Jazz would be her strongest influence. The clarion call of voices like Sarah Vaughan\, Billie Holiday and Nancy Wilson served as the aspirational blueprint for what would become her own soulful interpretations of classic standards.  \n\n\n\nAfter graduating NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Musical Theater\, Kate balanced work in the theater with her own swing septet Lady Luck and the Suicide Kings which she lead for 6 years. After a chance opportunity lead to a 3 year sabbatical in Amsterdam; Kate returned home determined to focus solely on her work as a Jazz vocalist. Inspired by Sarah Vaughan’s “Swingin Easy” album she pared down her instrumentation and has been delighting NYC audiences with her effortlessly unique phrasing and mesmerizing vocal storytelling ever since.  \n\n\n\nIn addition to her work in NYC and on the road with Louis Prima Jr and the Witnesses Kate is extremely excited to be recording her first album later this year!

Within their show\, they may pay homage to bands such as the Grateful Dead & the Band\, or artists such as BB King & Aretha Franklin. Their original music stems from that same soulful soil\, ranging from gritty blues to upbeat Americana.​​ \n\n\n\n​ \n\n\n\nThe Outcrops’ journey has been marked by milestones\, such as sharing the stage with acts like The Outlaws\, Three Dog Night\, Alexis P. Suter\, Kat Wright\, and King Solomon Hicks\, to gracing the lineups of festivals such as Rock\, Ribs\, & Ridges\, the Anglesea Blues Festival\, Musikfest\, and Meeting of the Minds. Their performance earned them 1st place in the 2nd Annual SOPAC Blues Challenge back in 2017 and 1st place in the North Jersey Blues Challenge (2025)\, sending them to Memphis in 2026.

Together\, they will celebrate the music of Charlie Parker and Dinah Washington\, both of whom have birthdays on August 29th!  \n\n\n\nDon’t wait:  Lynette Sheard Tickets on the Morris Museum Back Deck. \n\n\n\nAccomplished muralist and Sheard’s daughter\, Monet Sheard\, will capture the atmosphere of the event by live painting throughout the performance. \n\n\n\nLynette Sheard is a versatile vocalist. She is an award winning actor\, producer\, director and vocal coach\, and mental health advocate. She performs Jazz\, Blues\, R&B\, Gospel\, Soul and Pop music. Theater credits include principal roles in: Dream Girls\, Smokey Joe’s Cafe\, and Ragtime. Broadway World declared that “she is fabulous with a voice that shakes the rafters” Lynette is also featured in the “Encyclopedia of Newark Jazz.”  \n\n\n\nFrom 1984 thru 1993\, John Lee was Dizzy Gillespie’s bassist. Performing and recording in the trumpet master’s various bands including the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet\, Dizzy Gillespie Big Band\, and Dizzy’s Grammy Award winning United Nation Orchestra. After Dizzy’s passing\, his family asked John to create an ongoing tribute to the great man and his music—and the concept for the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars was born. John is the bassist and director of the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars\, Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band\, and the Dizzy Gillespie Afro-Latin Experience. John has worked in the bands of Gary Bartz\, Larry Coryell\, Jon Faddis\, Aretha Franklin\, Roberta Gambarini\, Roy Hargrove\, Jimmy Heath\, Gregory Hines\, Miriam Makeba\, James Moody\, Claudio Roditi\, Sonny Rollins\, and McCoy Tyner. John is also a Grammy Award winning record producer and audio engineer. He has produced over 100 recordings and is the co-founder of the record label JLP\, Jazz Legacy Productions. A native of St. Thomas\, U.S. Virgin Islands\, she first stood up to sing in church at eleven years old — and that sanctuary calling has shaped every stage she has stepped onto since. She studied vocal music at New York City’s “Fame” High School of the Arts and at Cornell University\, where she directed the gospel choir and founded the all-female gospel ensemble Baraka Kwa Wimbo\, learning early that a voice raised in praise can gather a whole community together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom those roots she has sung at Carnegie Hall with the New York Choral Society\, headlined the Global Leadership Summit\, appeared on The Voice in Spain\, and toured internationally as a soloist and jazz vocalist.
