The brainchild of world-renowned drummer/composer/ producer Greg Paul\, this nine- piece ensemble hailing from Inglewood\, CA showcases an eclectic mix of experimental contemporary jazz.  \n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite\n\n\nThe collective comprises of pianist Brandon Cordoba\, saxophonist David Otis\, Grammy- award winning trombonist Jonah Levine\, keyboard/pianist Brian Hargrove\, percussionist Ahmad Dubose\, uptight bassist Corbin Jones\, bass guitarist Marlon Spears and Katalyst founder and drummer Greg Paul. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2020 during the height of the pandemic\, Katalyst released their critically acclaimed debut album entitled “Nine Lives” a free-spirited instrumental jazz album that truly encapsulates the pulse of Los Angeles. Conceived during impromptu Sunday Jam Sessions at their home base in Inglewood\, the title is personal as it documents the lives and fusion of these nine renaissance men\, equally yoked through 10 tracks that transport you on musical journey unlike any other. \n\n\n\nIn 2022\, they released their critically acclaimed compilation album with the Jazz Is Dead collective\, in which they toured throughout the US in the Summer of 2022. With roots in Jazz\, Hiphop\, Soul\, Gospel\, and R&B\, he has released several solo projects. Brandon has had the pleasure of collaborating with numerous bands and artists\, and is continuously pursuing new and exciting musical territory. \n\n\n\nBrian Hargrove is a Los Angeles based composer/pianist from Dallas\, Texas and an alumnus of USC’s Thornton School of Music and Annenberg School of Communication. An award-winning composer/arranger\, Hargrove’s commissioned and personal work spans a wide range of idioms and contexts – from jazz to pop; chamber/orchestral to art music fusing aesthetics of hip-hop and avant-garde. Collaborations include projects with Michael Jackson\, Vesper Theatre Company\, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Strings and more. As keyboardist\, he was a long-time member of Roy Hargrove’s The RH Factor\, currently tours worldwide with Solange and also performed with Harvey Mason\, Alice Smith\, The Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra and many others. \n\n\n\nDavid Otis from Downey\, California\, is one of the upcoming Saxophonists of today. A graduate from Cal state Northridge with a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies\, David also has a Masters degree from the prestigious Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz from UCLA. Through the Institute\, David has preformed\, toured\, and studied with Herbie Hancock\, Wayne Shorter\, Jimmy Heath\, Stefon Harris\, Dee Bridgewater\, and more. \n\n\n\nOutside of the institute\, David has preformed with recording artists such as Usher\, Mac Miller\, SiR\, Theo Crocker\, Anderson Paak\, Shafiq Husayn\, Kendrick Lamar and many more. David can be heard on recordings for artists such as RZA\, Maxo\, and Shafiq Husayn\, to name a few. He has also been on a number of TV shows such as Americas Got Talent. \n\n\n\nCorbin Jones is a California-born\, Colorado-rasied arranger and multi-instrumentalist and has credits with such artists as Beyoncé\, Jay-Z\, Lizzo\, Lucky Daye\, Lupe Fiasco\, Gwen Stefani\, and Kendrick Lamar. He’s performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall\, Newport Jazz Festival\, Monterey Jazz Festival\, the Appel Room at Jazz @ Lincoln Center\, and on NPR’s Tiny Desk. A graduate of USC Thornton Jazz Studies program\, Jones’ love of groove has led him to the a career on not only double bass\, but bass guitar\, synth bass\, sousaphone\, baritone saxophone\, and leading his own group The Corbin Jones Big Band (featuring other members of Katalyst). \n\n\n\nJonah Levine is a Grammy-award winning musician\, composer\, and bandleader based in Los Angeles\, California. He released his debut record Attention Deficit under the Jonah Levine Collective moniker in March 2017 on the Alpha Pup Records jazz imprint World Galaxy Records. Attention Deficit garnished wide acclaim and attention from press as diverse as Bandcamp Daily to Forbes. LA Weekly featured it as an honorable mention in its lists of “Best Albums of 2017” and was also showcased on Noisey’s radio station with Apple Beats 1 and Gilles Peterson’s BBC Radio 6 program. \n\n\n\nLevine is the type of dedicated musician and composer that maintains a busy schedule through all cycles of the year. His most recent recording credits include Jay-Z’s 4:44 and the Damian Marley featured track “Bam\,” and Mon Laferte’s “Norma” which won beat alternative album of the year at the Latin Grammys. He served as musical director for Josef Leimberg and his debut concert on the World Galaxy imprint\, has performed with Stevie Wonder\, Kanye West\, Chance the Rapper\, and also writes\, records\, and produces regularly. \n\n\n\nAhmad DuBose-Dawson is a professional percussionist \, producer\, & recording artist from the Central Coast of California. His music style is a kaleidoscopic expression of Traditional African\, Afro Cuban\, World Music\, Hip Hop and Jazz all. He currently resides in Los Angeles where he is heavily involved in the recording as we as the live performance scene playing for multiple talents platform around the city and for multiple LA Based Bands including The Katalyst Collective. His versatility\, charisma\, and passionate approach to all musical scenarios led him to master a myriad of sound and rhythms that make him a reference among artists\, composers and producers in various genres of music. \n\n\n\nGreg Paul is a Buffalo raised drummer\, composer and band leader based in Los Angeles\, CA. He is a graduate of the USC Jazz studies Masters program and currently tours the world with artist like Kamaal Williams (Henry Wu)\, China Moses and Mark de Clive-Lowe. Greg is also heavily involved in L.A’s recording community\, playing on records for Gary Bartz\, Roy Ayers\, Joao Donato\, Chronixx\, Protoje etc..Along with a busy live performance and recording schedule\, Greg’s primary focus is the Katalyst\, a band of talented musicians\, composers\, producers and creatives that he established in 2014. Although the group is still in it’s early stages\, the band has had many accomplishments on and off the bandstand and Greg plans on pursuing the full potential of the Katalyst for the duration of his career. \n\n\n\nMarlon Spears has been a professional bassist since 2006 and has played for a variety of artists across various genres ranging from SiR to Lonnie Liston Smith. Marlon has performed at some of the country’s great stages and events\, including SXSW\, Coachella\, The Walt Disney Concert Hall\, N.Y.E.L.A.\, and the Staples Center. as well as abroad\, on tour with Kamaal Williams. In addition to live performances\, Marlon has also recorded for numerous projects\, albums\, and singles ranging from Pop and Rock to Gospel and Jazz\, including SiR’s album “Chasing Summer”. DESCRIPTION:ABOUT RADAM SCHWARTZ \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us \n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRadam a Schwartz  \n\n\n\nHammond B3 Organist and Jazz pianist\, has built his reputation over the last 35 years playing with such great musicians as Arthur and Red Prysock\, Eddie Lockjaw Davis\, Al Hibler\, David Fathead Newman\, Russell Malone\, Cecil Brooks III and Jimmy Ford. He continues to make music history today playing with renowned artists\, Bill Saxton\, Iron City\, The Spirit of Life Ensemble and many others. \n\n\n\nRadam’s prolific career has led to many successful recordings. His recording\, Organized (Muse Records 1995)\, was mentioned in the B3 Bible as one of the essential organ records of all time. He also has been featured on Cecil Brooks III and the CBIII band\, For Those Who Love to Groove (was # 4 on the Jazz Charts-Savant Records); Our Day Will Come (Blue Lady Records) with the Tommy Gryce Trio; The Lenny Roberts Quartet\, Keepin’ it on the D.L.; Jazz at Crossroads; and Russell Gunn’s Mood Swings (was # 1 on the Jazz Charts-HighNote Records)\, Brooklyn Soul Organization (M&N Records). In all\, he has been on over 40 recordings as a sideman\, 7 as a leader\, and 2 as a co-leader. His most recent endeavor on Arabesque Records is entitled 2 Sides of the Organ Comboand features Radam with 2 ensembles\, The Smooth Side with Bryan Carrott on vibes\, Mike Lee on tenor saxophone and Andrew Atkinson on drums\, and the Groove Side with Marcus Printup on trumpet\, Anthony Ware on alto saxophone\, Charlie Sigler on guitar\, and Andrew Atkinson on drums. \n\n\n\nIn 2005\, Radam’s recording Conspiracy for Positivity(Blue Ark Records) occupied a spot on the National Jazz Charts for 14 straight weeks\, climbing as high as number 15. Magic Tales\, the second recording with his group\, was released on Arabesque Recordings in 2007\,and got as high as #11 on the charts and stayed on the charts also for 14 weeks( this recording was also given an award by as one of the top 10 Sesac Jazz records 0f 2007-08). In March 2009\, Savant Records released Blues Citizens by Radam and an all-star group of Bruce Williams\, Bill Saxton\, Eric Johnson and Cecil Brooks III\, which got the #9 position on the Jazz Charts (also given a Sesac Award). Some of the artists (previously not mentioned) that Radam has recorded with are\, Sonny Fortune\, Rodney Jones\, Ed Cherry\, Bruce Williams\, Bill Saxton\, Frank Lacy\, Don Braden\, Gene Ghee\, Jeff Hackworth\, Clifford Adams\, Jay Hogard\, Irwin Hall\, Julian Lee\, James Stewart\, Brad Leali\, Jerome Jennings\, Carrie Jackson\, Madame Pat Tandy\, Ty Stephens. \n\n\n\nRadam had hosted a Jam Session from 1986 to 20016\, beginning at the famous Peppermint Lounge in Orange\, New Jersey\, and in 1997 when the Mint closed its doors\, moving to the Crossroads in Garwood\, where he played every Tuesday for 19 years\, making this the longest running session in New Jersey history. Over the years\, famous musicians like Etta Jones\, Rhoda Scott\, Jimmy McGriff\, Roy Ayers\, Woody Shaw\, Bobby Watson\, and George Benson all enjoyed playing at the Jam Sessions. He is a regular at Showmans in Harlem\, NY (one of the few remaining organ clubs). \n\n\n\nRadam also has been a jazz educator for many years\, with several generations of young musicians being mentored by him. He served as music director at the Jazz Institute of New Jersey for close to 20 years\, also served as an artist-in-residence at Middlesex County Arts High School\, taught at the Jazz Academy in Red Bank\, NJ\, Jazz Connections in Montclair NJ. Born and raised near Philadelphia\, he started drumming at the age of six under the guidance of his father—a jazz drummer—and by his teenage years was already playing in local bands around Philadelphia and the New York Tri-State area. His early exposure to a family steeped in musical traditions laid a foundation that would carry him through decades of professional success . \n\n\n\nDamon’s formal training at Berklee College of Music not only refined his technique but also broadened his musical horizons. This education proved invaluable as he embarked on tours and recordings with legends such as Roberta Flack\, Vanessa Williams\, Hugh Masekela\, and Oliver Lake\, among others. He was also recognized as a “Rising Star” at the COTA Jazz Festival in 2015 and 2016. Desrivieres leads the Harmonic Convergence Band\, a project that blends different musical genres and cultures. He performs under the name AlleyCatSax\, a nickname he earned in high school. His teaching philosophy emphasizes guided exploration and student-centered learning\, helping young musicians unlock their creativity \n\n\n\nKim Clark\n\n\n\nKim Clark\n\n\n\nMeet Kim A. Clarke\, a New York-based bassist\, composer\, and educator drawing inspiration from her jazz heritage. You can check out the official event page here. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMike Kaplan Big Band \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Nonet Big Band features 6 horns out front\,  an intuitive rhythm section and plays original arrangements in a variety of styles\, grooves and genres all filtered through the 21st century Jazz sensibilities of the leader and band members.  A set from the band can often feature styles ranging encompassing swing\, funk\, post-bop\, Latin jazz\, New Orleans 2nd line rhythm and blues\, Samba / Bossa nova\, free\, ballads and much more. In addition to featuring Kaplan’s original compositions and compositions by other band members\, the band also re-examines and re-works deserving compositions of others ranging from  Jelly Roll Morton & Duke Ellington to Marvin Gaye.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMike Kaplan (arranger/tenor saxophone) has been writing for and leading a Jazz Nonet for almost 50 years.  He envisioned it as a unit combining the strength\, cohesion and varied tonal colors of a big band with the spontaneity and flexibility of a small group.  Mike studied saxophone with Charles McPherson\, Warne Marsh\, Joe Lovano\, Bob Mover\, Mack Goldsbury and Fred Amend and graduated William Paterson University with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance.  Among the groups and people he’s recorded and played with are Slide Hampton\, the Glenn Miller Orchestra\, Chico Mendoza’s Latin Jazz Dream Band\, Steve Turre\, Russell Malone and Rob McConnell.  In addition to freelancing in the NJ/NY area\, Kaplan has had his arrangements performed by the Composers Big Band and recorded by Orquesta Royal and la Progressiva.   In 2008\, Mike was the recipient of a Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission Bits and Pieces grant to write an original composition for the ensemble for a performance at the Barron Performing Arts Center (Woodbridge\, NJ) \, the first such musical grant awarded in over 10 years.    \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Vinnie Borselli (lead trumpet) has worked in many different settings. He has performed in the Broadway pit orchestras of Crazy For You\, Big\, A Christmas Carol\, Damn Yankees\, and Kiss Of The Spiderwoman. He has also appeared with Aretha Franklin\, Johnny Mathis\, The Temptations\, The Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra with The Pied Pipers\, Sister Sledge\, Gloria Gaynor\, The Spinners\, The OJays\, The Harry James Orchestra\, Michael Feinstein\, Peter Nero and The Philly Pops\, Bobby Rydell\, Linda Rondstadt\, Olivia Newton-John\, Lou Christie\, Shirley Alston\, The Duprees\, Jerry Vale\, Wayne Newton\, The Irish Tenors\, Connie Francis\, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks\, Recordings with Jazz Organist Joey Defrancesco\, The Real Deal Big Band\, The Dalton Gang\, Richie Cole’s Alto Madness Orchestra\,  LaBamba’s Big Band\, Philadelphia’s City Rhythm Big Band\, and many others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLiam Sutcliffe (trumpet/flugelhorn) performs regularly as a freelance musician and bandleader in the Philadelphia/New York metro area. As a New Jersey native\, Liam Sutcliffe graduated from Rutgers’ Mason Gross School of the Arts and attended Manhattan School of Music. Liam has performed multiple times at John F. Kennedy Center in Washington DC\, Dizzy’s Club\, Birdland in New York City\, Chris’ Jazz Cafe and South Jazz Kitchen in Philadelphia\, and many more.  He is a member of the 2019 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program and the 2022 JAS Academy Big Band led by Christian McBride. Sutcliffe was the winner of the 2020 US Army Blues Solo Competition and the 2022 New Jersey Jazz Society Scholarship.  Liam Sutcliffe’s music is strongly rooted in the jazz/bebop tradition and employs modern elements as well.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBen Williams (trombone)\,lauded by the New York Times for his “sassy and barrel voiced trombone” has extensive performing experience in the jazz and commercial music fields. In Jazz\, he has performed with artists such as George Coleman\, Claudio Roditi\, Oliver Lake among many others. A co- recipient of a Jazz Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment of the Arts\, Ben has led and co-led numerous groups under his own name\, performing in many venues in the NYC area and across the country. He has worked with scores of major acts such as The Spinners\, The Temptations\, Frankie Avalon\, Lou Christie to name but a few. Ben has recorded for many independent labels\, and has done much work for TV\, including Nickelodeon\, MSNBC and the Golf Channel. His role as featured soloist with The Composers Big Band is highlighted on the group’s recent CD. Hot House says of Ben\, “Like Jimmy Knepper\, Williams is a distinctive and resourceful trombonist. He’s also not afraid to let the horn sound like itself\, slurs\, bleats\, blares and all.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGreg Grispart (alto saxophone/clarinet/flute)  is a multi-instrumentalist with accomplished skills as a performer in a wide range of genres. Early on\, Greg earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Classical Clarinet Performance from Mason Gross School of the Arts\, Rutgers University. Greg has gone on to play as a side man with jazz musicians including Gary Mazzaroppi\, Chris Pinnella\, Greg Gisbert\, Steve Turre and Larry McKenna\, David Glasser among many others. Hailed by the New York City Jazz Record as a saxophonist “who can realize each of the distinctly gorgeous tones within the soprano\, alto and tenor… add to this a weighty sound on flute and alto flute \,Craig Yaremko may be the only player left standing.” His diverse musical tastes have led to performances with world-classjazz\, classical\, rock and pop artists\, establishing himself as one of the mostexciting and versatile artists on the New York-area music scene. Yaremko has led his own groups since and released several critically acclaimed recordings. Yaremko is also an in-demand sideman known for his impeccable section playing and energetic solos. He has worked with some of the New York area’s finest big bands\, including the Water Gap Jazz Orchestra\, Tommy Igoe and the Birdland Big Band\, One More Once Big Band\, Diane Moser’s Composers Big Band\, the BMI Composers Workshop (with Jim McNeely\, Mike Holober and Michael Abene)\, as well as the bands of Bill Mobley and Bill Warfield.  Craig has appeared on numerous recordings\, including the recent projects “Echos” (with guitarist John Ehlis and percussion virtuoso Glen Velez) and several projects with trumpeter Glenn Makos. He has performed with jazz artists including Geri Allen\, Jerry Bergonzi\, Randy Brecker\, Rufus Reid\, John Riley\, and Dave Stryker.  Yaremko has also performed with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra\, New York City Symphony\, and numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway pit orchestras.  He has backed-up such artists as Frankie Avalon\, Michael Feinstein\,Aretha Franklin\, Johnny Mathis\, and Frankie Valli. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTed Brancato (piano/keyboard) has spent most of his 40+ year career in the New York City area.  For 15 years he was musical director and pianist for singer Jeanie Bryson\, creating arrangements and touring the world with her.  Ted also had a fruitful 30+ year collaboration with singer/songwriter Eugene McDaniels\, penning songs together for Nancy Wilson\, Les McCann and others.  Ted’s first solo cd “The Next Step” featured Ted helming a trio with Ron Carter on bass and Terry Silverlight on drums.  His 2nd cd\, “Bicoastal” features a quintet with “Blue Lou” Marini\, Ben Williams\, Brad Jones and Lee Finkelstein.  Ted also has a busy freelance career and has backed up many of the area’s leading jazz vocalists.  He is also the Director of Music Ministry at Clinton Presbyterian Church. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJay Sweet (bass) is a multi-instrumentalist\, educator\, writer and researcher known for his extensive contributions to the music industry.  He has performed with many of jazz’s finest including Ted Curson\, Norman Simmons and Bob Ackerman.  Jay teaches bass\, Jazz History\, American Music History and Music History at Monmouth University and has also taught related courses at Middlesex College and Rutgers University.  Jay is also the owner of Sweet Music Academy in Howell\, NJ where he and his staff have successfully instructed over 4\,000 students in 20+ years.  As a contributing editor of Jersey Jazz Magazine\, Jay has interviewed legends such as George Benson\, Ron Carter\, Joshua Redman and Stanley Clarke.  Sweet also has 2 successful podcasts with listeners world wide: 30 Albums For 30 Years (1964-94) and the Jazz Real Book.  Sweet is also a published author: A History of American Music 1730 – 1930 (Kendall Holt) and the upcoming Ray Brown: His Life and Music (Equinox Publishing)   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNick Scheuble has performed with Classical and Jazz Grammy winner\, Wynton Marsalis\, as well many of the world’s greatest jazz musicians. DESCRIPTION:One of the first trombonists to explore free jazz\, Grachan Moncur III is still best-known for his pair of innovative Blue Note albums (1963-1964) that also featured Lee Morgan and Jackie McLean on the first session and Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock on the later date. The son of bassist Grachan Moncur II\, who played with the Savoy Sultans during 1937-1945\, Grachan III started on trombone when he was 11. He toured with Ray Charles (1959-1962)\, was with the Jazztet (1962)\, and in 1963\, played advanced jazz with Jackie McLean. Moncur toured with Sonny Rollins (1964) and played and recorded with Marion Brown\, Joe Henderson\, and Archie Shepp\, matching up with fellow trombonist Roswell Rudd in the latter group. He also was part of the cooperative band 360 Degree Music Experience with Beaver Harris. Grachan Moncur\, who has also recorded as a leader for BYG (1969) and JCOA (1974)\, continues to play challenging music and has been an educator. DESCRIPTION:Little Johnny Rivero\, legendary congero\, percussionist\, producer\, song writer and band leader was born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents. As a young boy\, Little Johnny was drawn to the sounds and rhythms of the “rumberos” playing at Jefferson and Randall’s Island parks. Little Johnny began practicing percussion at age ten and played in his school’s band. Soon after\, he took dance lessons which eventually led to performances on stage with the bands of the era at such famous venues as The Manhattan Center\, The Colgate Gardens\, The Copacabana and The Palladium. \n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite\n\n\nAt age fourteen\, Little Johnny joined Orquesta Colón\, the youngest Latin band in New York City and recorded two albums with them. Johnny then moved to Puerto Rico with his parents and joined La Sonora Ponceña. After playing bongos with the band for a year and a half he switched to congas\, which rekindled the love affair he had begun with this instrument as a small child. Over the sixteen years Little Johnny played with La Sonora Ponceña he recorded eighteen highly respected albums with them.Currently\, Little Johnny is touring the world extensively with the winner of ten Grammy awards\, Eddie Palmieri. In addition\, Johnny continues to work at studio sessions and perform with many of the biggest and most respected acts in latin music including his own band.Johnny’s first solo effort\, “Pasos Gigantes” has been very well received by critics and music fans alike. DESCRIPTION:Very excited to present this extraordinary Guitarist on our stage.  \n\n\n\nMarel Hidalgo is a sixteen-year-old guitarist and bandleader from New Jersey\, . \n\n\n\nThe Band :Marel Hidalgo (guitar)\, Pablo Campos (piano)\, Joe Peterson (bass)\, Joe Brown\, Jr. (drums).  \n\n\n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite\n\n\nHe began studying music at the age of four\, under the instruction of guitar teacher Jerry Franklin at a local music school within a few months\, he had his first presentation as a special guest of local reggae artist Tim P-Dub. Less than two years later\, at the age of six\, Marel formed his first band\, working with professional musicians from the area\, performing a wide variety of musical genres. After his band’s debut in a jam-packed local venue\, Marel started building a name in the New Jersey scene. During this period\, he performed in numerous festival and venues such as the Convention Hall\, Stone Pony\, Wonder Bar in Asbury Park\, Camden Connect the Dots Music Fest\, Colts Neck Rock Fest\, South Mountain International Blues Festival\, and later on\, he began traveling outside the state with his band\, to places such as The Denver Day Of Rock and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland\, Ohio\, while at the same time being featured on National TV on the Harry Connick Jr. Show\, and multiple press articles in publications such as USA Today and Scholastic.​​ \n\n\n\n​ \n\n\n\nTwelve years after he picked up his first guitar\, Marel continues performing\, mainly on the East Coast jazz scene. With a unique combination of straight-ahead jazz and Caribbean jazz influences\, his guitar playing stems from guitar greats such as Ernest Ranglin\, Joe Pass\, Jimmy Ponder\, Johnny Smith\, Tal Farlow and Pat Martino. He began his musical journey at the age 12\, playing saxophone\, flute and drums\, and eventually\, exclusively drums. He played mostly jazz all through his teens. \n\n\n\nAfter earning a BA in History from Wagner College in 1973\, and after studying with Jack DeJohnette\, Bob Moses and Steve Haas he moved to NYC in 1975 to pursue his musical career. From 1975 to 1984 Baratta played gigs and recorded in and out of NYC. Some of his bandmates and associations were with John Stubblefield\, Joe Ford\, Frank Strozier\, Hal Galper\, Mike Richmond\, Saheb Sarbib\, Dennis Irwin\, Vernon Reid\, Billy Bang\, Jack Wilkens\, Ryo Kawasaki\, Jessica Hagedorn and the Gangster Choir\, Guilherme Franco\, Pe De Boi\, Cyro Baptista\, and a very memorable one day hit with Hank Mobley and then Johnny Hartman. \n\n\n\nIn 1984\, Baratta decided to dramatically alter paths\, and pursued a career in movie production. “Money was tight\, the gigs were hard to come by\, and I was getting married and wanted to raise a family. It was just time for a very difficult decision that had to be made. I looked back many times and terribly missed the joy in playing and the camaraderie with the musicians. The IJS is the largest and most comprehensive archive of jazz-related materials in the world. Winborne is also an assistant professor in the Arts\, Culture\, and Media department at Rutgers\, where he frequently presents on topics like jazz\, art\, culture\, democracy\, and racial reckoning. Beyond his academic contributions\, Winborne has produced recordings for labels like MaxJazz and HighNote\, written and produced documentaries\, and received awards for his work in promoting diversity and cultural understanding3. His leadership at the IJS continues to preserve and celebrate jazz as an essential American art form through his proprietorship of his extremely well known club\, Clements Place..   \n \nRichard Clements is a talented pianist based in New York City. Originally from Cleveland\, Ohio\, he studied music at Sacramento State University before moving to NYC in 1981. Over the years\, he’s collaborated with renowned artists like Clifford Jordan\, Abbey Lincoln\, and Ricky Ford. He recently performed a solo piano concert at Marcus Garvey Park\, celebrating Black History Month. You can also catch him at venues like the 11th Street Bar.  \n  \n \nRudy Walker is a talented jazz drummer based in New Jersey. His career spans over 30 years\, during which he has performed\, recorded\, and taught extensively. Belden has been part of various ensembles\, including Ralph Peterson Jr.’s Fo’Tet and the Spirit of Life Ensemble. His work spans traditional jazz and experimental styles\, showcasing his ability to adapt and innovate. \n  \n \nLongtime McCoy Tyner saxophonist Joe Ford is an accomplished musician  originally from Buffalo\, New York\, but his influence extends far beyond. He studied under notable musicians like Jackie McLean and Frank Foster\, earning a degree in music education from Central State University. Ford has also collaborated with jazz legends such as Sam Jones\, and Abdullah Ibrahim\, showcasing his mastery of both soprano and alto saxophones. DESCRIPTION:Rhoda Scott\, originally from NJ and living in France for most of her 40 plus -year career\, is one of the world’s most celebrated jazz organists. Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies and Gregory Burrus Productions have come together to present these premier artists during her annual limited appearance in the City of Newark. \n\n\n\n\n\nRhoda Scott is an acclaimed American soul jazz organist and singer\, often referred to as “The Barefoot Lady” because she prefers to play the organ without shoes. Born on July 3\, 1938\, in New Jersey\, she grew up in a musical household and was drawn to the organ at a young age. Her father\, a minister\, introduced her to gospel and spiritual music\, which greatly influenced her style. \n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nScott’s career took off in the 1960s\, and she became known for her soulful and rhythmic playing. She eventually moved to France\, where she has spent most of her career and gained significant recognition. In addition to her jazz performances\, she has also been a church organist for decades. Her contributions to music have made her a beloved figure in both the jazz and church music communities. \n\n\n\nJoining Rhoda on the Stage will be: \n\n\n\nMark Whitfield\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMark Whitfield is a renowned American jazz guitarist\, celebrated for his soulful and versatile playing style. Born on October 6\, 1966\, in Lindenhurst\, New York\, he graduated from Berklee College of Music and quickly made a name for himself in the jazz world. Whitfield has collaborated with legendary artists like Dizzy Gillespie\, Quincy Jones\, and Herbie Hancock\, among others. His debut album\, The Marksman\, released in 1990\, marked the beginning of a successful recording career. \n\n\n\nWhitfield remains active as a performer\, recording artist\, and educator\, sharing his expertise through master classes and private instruction. He has also worked on Grammy-winning projects\, such as For Jimmy\, Wes and Oliver with the Christian McBride Big Band. \n\n\n\nJerome Jennings \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJerome Jennings is a drummer\, activist\, bandleader\, sideman\, and EmmyAward winning composer. His debut recording ‘The Beast’ is a reflectionof the every day joys and traumas of black life in the U.S. It was namedone of the top three Jazz releases by NPR\, received a four star rating inDownbeat Magazine\, and was nominated for the prestigious French‘Grand Prix du Disque’ award for Album of the Year in 2016. Jerome’ssophomore recording\, ‘Solidarity’\, released November 2019 wasrecognized by NPR as best music that spoke truth to power of 2019.Jerome earned a MM from the prestigious Juilliard School in ManhattanNY. In 2014\, he passed Jazz At Lincoln Centers Swing University 301history course: The most comprehensive study of jazz from a nonperformance perspective\, available. Jazz At Lincoln Center has JeromeJennings on file as an accredited jazz scholar. He was the ResidentDirector of The Juilliard Jazz Orchestra from fall 2017 to 2021. Jerome isprofessor of jazz history at Montclair State University. \n\n\n\nJerome is a pertinent performer. He has composed music for and ismusical director for Maurice Chestnut’s dance production Beat’s Rhymesand Tap Shoes. To date Jerome has performed\, toured and recorded withlegendary musicians like Sonny Rollins\, Hank Jones\, Gerald Wilson\,Christian McBride\, Large Professor\, Ron Carter\, George Cables\, Dee DeeBridgewater\, Wynton Marsalis (J@LC)\, The Count Basie Orchestra\, PhilipBailey\, Henry Butler\, and countless others. He has also made recordingsand shared the stage with contemporary musicians Sean Jones\, CamilleThurman\, Jazzmeia Horn\, Tadataka Unno\, Christian Sands\, ChareneeWade\, and Bokani Dyer to name a few.
