Sofia Carrasco herself is a tenor saxophonist and visual artist from Arequipa\, Peru\, known for her honest and expressive interpretations. You can explore her music\, including her latest album Alma Escondida. \n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSofia’s art is a personal exploration of what genuinely intrigues her about the human experience. Each piece reflects her fascination with people—their uniqueness\, bodies\, movements\, fears\, hate\, love\, and the varied ways they navigate life within society. While formally trained in classical saxophone\, Sofia delved into the worlds of jazz and traditional Peruvian music. Having completed production and composition courses at Berklee College of Music and a master’s in Jazz Performance at New Jersey City University\, Sofia brings a unique blend of jazz and Peruvian influences to her work.

Her live performances have been acknowledged in numerous publications including\, The NY Times\, Broadway World\, and The Star-Ledger\, which proclaimed that “Her voice reaches deep into one’s soul and finds a soft spot” She performs Jazz\, Blues\, R&B\, Gospel\, Soul\, and Pop music. She has performed for sold-out audiences around the tri-state including Deer Head Inn\, SOPAC\, and NJPAC. Her most recent performance at Birdland Jazz received a standing ovation. Theater credits include principal roles in Dream Girls\, Smokey Joe’s Café\, Ragtime\, Swing\, Aida\, For Colored Girls\, A Raisin in the Sun\, and Avenue Q in which Broadway World declared that “she is fabulous with a voice that shakes the rafters” In 2017 she was inducted into the “Encyclopedia of Newark Jazz.
