Let Gregory Burrus Know \n\n\n\nWayne Winborne \n\n\n\nWayne Winborne is a visionary leader\, educator\, and cultural advocate whose life’s work has been dedicated to preserving and advancing the legacy of jazz. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Institute of Jazz Studies (IJS) at Rutgers University–Newark\, the largest and most comprehensive jazz archive in the world. Under his stewardship\, the IJS continues to expand its reach\, ensuring that the voices\, stories\, and artistry of jazz musicians are preserved for generations to come. \n\n\n\nBeyond his role at Rutgers\, Wayne is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Arts\, Culture\, and Media\, where he inspires students through courses on jazz history\, art\, democracy\, civic engagement\, and race relations. His teaching and public presentations reflect his lifelong commitment to using culture as a bridge for dialogue\, understanding\, and social progress. \n\n\n\nWayne’s career spans academia\, nonprofit leadership\, and corporate strategy. He has held executive positions at Prudential Financial\, served on the Board of the Brooklyn Philharmonic\, and consulted widely with corporations\, small businesses\, and nonprofits on strategic planning\, diversity\, equity\, and inclusion (DEI)\, multicultural marketing\, and fund development. His expertise in dialogue facilitation and intergroup relations has made him a trusted voice in navigating issues of race\, identity\, and community. \n\n\n\nAs an author and editor\, Wayne has contributed numerous publications and is the editor of a three-volume series on race and intergroup relations. His work reflects both scholarly rigor and a heartfelt dedication to fostering equity and justice. \n\n\n\nWayne’s impact extends far beyond the classroom and archives. He has co-produced jazz recordings\, collaborated with artists and musicians\, and championed initiatives that connect local heritage to national recognition. His leadership embodies the spirit of jazz itself—innovative\, inclusive\, and deeply rooted in community. \n\n\n\nOn December 17th\, we celebrate not only Wayne’s birthday but also his extraordinary contributions to jazz\, education\, and cultural preservation. This fundraiser honors his legacy and supports the ongoing work he leads\, ensuring that jazz remains a living\, breathing force for unity and inspiration. \n\n\n\nDonate: Requested Donation $100 \n\n\n\nhttps://give.rutgersfoundation.org/jazz-institute-support/1238.html \n\n\n\nSign Up Here: \n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite
