Born in New York City on September 27\, 1957\, Weldon’s journey began with a spark—ignited at age 14 when his father took him to see Stan Getz at the Village Vanguard. That moment set the course for a life steeped in swing\, soul\, and bebop brilliance. \n\n\n\nA graduate of the Rutgers University Jazz Studies Program\, Weldon launched his professional career in 1981 with the legendary Lionel Hampton Orchestra\, continuing his tenure with Hamp into the new millennium. He then joined Jack McDuff’s Heatin’ System\, cementing his reputation as a go-to tenor for organ-driven grooves. \n\n\n\nWeldon’s résumé reads like a jazz hall of fame: he’s collaborated with Jimmy McGriff\, Joey DeFrancesco\, Dr. Lonnie Smith\, George Benson\, Mel Tormé\, Roy Haynes\, and Cedar Walton\, among countless others.
