She performs and tours nationally with her talented band for the last 10 years and is releasing her 8th single and EP “Forever Young” in 2020. \n\n\n\nBriar has performed and opened for numerous national acts like the Marshall Tucker band\, BlackBerry Smoke\, Chris Janson\, Parmalee\, Lindsey Ell\, Jerrod Niemann\, Lorrie Morgan\, Rodney Atkins\, Granger Smith\, Chase Bryant\, Lee Brice\, Big Country\, Keifer Sutherland\, Locash\, Outshyne\, Blackjack Billy\, the Outlaws\, and Cassadee Pope. \n\n\n\nBio \n\n\n\nNikki Briar\, born Nicole Signorella on May 23rd has truly been passionately involved with music her entire life. Her father\, Joseph\, made his living as a touring drummer for a Motown band called the Victorians\, while mother Oksana\, was a classically trained pianist and artist. From a very young age\, Briar was influenced and connected best with artists such as Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston. Her parents say that the way she learned to speak was by memorizing and singing along to her favorite songs on her record player. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA young Briar took part in every performing event that she could\, singing in the choir and becoming the first female drummer in her middle school. In sixth grade\, she started learning to play the guitar from her uncle\, Anthony Signorella. Briar went to Arthur L. Johnson for her regular high school experience in Clark\, NJ. She also attended the Gifted and Talented program at a votech school where she participating in the highly praised musical theater department. She then went on to graduate from Seton Hall University with a degree in Special and Elementary Education\, minoring in Music for voice and guitar. Since graduating\, Nikki Briar has been teaching music to young children at the New Jersey Workshop of the Arts and currently attends Graduate School of Seton Hall University. She sings at events for the New Jersey National Guard and is a proud Army wife. \n\n\n\nWhen asked why she decided to pursue a career in country music\, Briar simply said: “I love the passion and the truth in country music. I love the story songs that can either make you laugh hysterically or bring you to tears. This Jersey Girl has the heart of a country music superstar and has performed with national southern rock and country acts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNikki records and performs in Nashville and has showed people that a Jersey Girl can rock the country music scene. She performs and tours nationally with her talented band for the last 10 years and is releasing her 8th single and EP “Forever Young” in 2020. \n\n\n\nBriar has performed and opened for numerous national acts like the Marshall Tucker band\, BlackBerry Smoke\, Chris Janson\, Parmalee\, Lindsey Ell\, Jerrod Niemann\, Lorrie Morgan\, Rodney Atkins\, Granger Smith\, Chase Bryant\, Lee Brice\, Big Country\, Keifer Sutherland\, Locash\, Outshyne\, Blackjack Billy\, the Outlaws\, and Cassadee Pope. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore about Nikki\n\n\n\nNikki Briar\, born Nicole Signorella on May 23rd has truly been passionately involved with music her entire life. Her father\, Joseph\, made his living as a touring drummer for a Motown band called the Victorians\, while mother Oksana\, was a classically trained pianist and artist. From a very young age\, Briar was influenced and connected best with artists such as Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston. Her parents say that the way she learned to speak was by memorizing and singing along to her favorite songs on her record player. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA young Briar took part in every performing event that she could\, singing in the choir and becoming the first female drummer in her middle school. In sixth grade\, she started learning to play the guitar from her uncle\, Anthony Signorella. Briar went to Arthur L. Johnson for her regular high school experience in Clark\, NJ. She also attended the Gifted and Talented program at a votech school where she participating in the highly praised musical theater department. She then went on to graduate from Seton Hall University with a degree in Special and Elementary Education\, minoring in Music for voice and guitar. Since graduating\, Nikki Briar has been teaching music to young children at the New Jersey Workshop of the Arts and currently attends Graduate School of Seton Hall University. She sings at events for the New Jersey National Guard and is a proud Army wife. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen asked why she decided to pursue a career in country music\, Briar simply said: “I love the passion and the truth in country music. I love the story songs that can either make you laugh hysterically or bring you to tears. In 2019 at Garfield Middle school Jacquie\, who has been playing Violin for 11 years\, received Jazz Soloist Downbeat Student Music Award for an Outstanding Performance. Jacquie has also been a member of Jazz House Kids and is a member of a family of musicians which has truly helped her honed her musicianship. I idolized her for a long time. We had family connections\, and I would get to do private lessons and group lessons with her. She’s so incredible and a very\, very nice person.” \n\n\n\nLee\, now 17\, has actually been playing violin since she was two years old. “I don’t think I had much choice in the matter\,” she said. Her mother Rebecca is a classical violinist; her father Mike is a jazz tenor saxophonist. “My mom started both of my brothers and me on the violin\,” she explained\, “because she believed it was important for all of us to get a grasp of music. In the early part of my life\, I was very strongly averse to playing jazz because both of my brothers did it\, and my dad did it.” Her brother Julian (27) is a saxophonist and her brother Matt (21) is a drummer. “Then\,” she continued\, “I got to that age where I really wanted to be like my brothers.” \n\n\n\nIn her freshman year at Montclair High School\, “Covid happened. I was 14\, and that’s when my dad stopped working every night. Covid was terrible for a lot of people and for us as well\, but my dad could put a lot of focus into helping me practice and stuff. We perform much of the music which the Woodie Alan performed to great acclaim throughout China\, \n\n\n\nThis week’s band is lead by Alan Paul. Alan is a former Guitar World and Wall Street Journal writer from the US who somehow became a notable Beijing-based blues musician. Alan wrote a memoir called Big in China about his crazy musical experiences here\, and tells the story of how it all began – thanks to a broken guitar\, a Chinese repairman who was also a secret musical wizard\, and their shared love of Stevie Ray Vaughn. \n\n\n\nAlan also has a huge connection to legendary Southern rock group the Allman Brothers Band. From writing about and interviewing them over a 25 year period\, Alan became an insider in their world\, and we talk a bit about his best-selling Allmans book One Way Out. The story of how it came to be\, in part\, because of Allmans drummer Butch Trucks’ discovery of and respect for Alan’s China book is pretty awesome.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCranford Summer Sounds \n\n\n\nWhether you arrive by car\, walking or the 3 minute away Cranford NJ Transit Station\, this is a walkable town with lots of businesses to see and enjoy and is a very convenient place to enjoy some live live music. \n\n\n\nWalk across the street\, grab a bite from a local restaurant\, settle in to your favorite lawn chair or arrive early and grab a yellow park seat for these special evening concerts in downtown Cranford. Theater credits include principal roles in: Dream Girls\, Smokey Joes Café\, Ragtime\, Swing\, Aida\, and an encore performance as Lena Younger Mama in Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun. She has received countless awards and recognition for her musical service work with children\, the elderly and veterans. She is a founding member of the Guiding Stars\, a Medical Missions group of professional performers who volunteer to entertain veterans and children. He has toured the world with Betty Carter\, Wynton Marsalis\, Tony Williams\, Freddie Hubbard\, Roy Haynes\, and others and performed on Saturday Night Live\, at Carnegie Hall\, Harvard University (where was an engineering undergrad)\, and countless jazz festivals and clubs. He has over 100 CDs as a sideman and 21 as a leader\, the most recent his critically acclaimed Earth Wind and Wonder. Don has written 150 pieces for ensembles from duos to full orchestras\, including one for Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands\, and over 100 songs for jazz combos. His compositions appear on dozens of CDs\, TV shows and indie films. In 2000\, he received a Doris Duke Foundation New Works grant and adjudicates for them and for SURDNA\, the Downbeat Student Music Awards\, and others. He teaches at Prins Claus Conservatoire in the Netherlands and at Montclair State University. He ran NJPAC’s Jazz for Teens for 15 years and also led the Harvard University Monday Jazz Band. Don believes that jazz is a great music style to study because it reflects so many important aspects of life\, including creativity\, discipline\, teamwork\, leadership\, listening skills\, democracy\, supportiveness and improvisation.
