However\, it was Stevie Wonder who left the most indelible impression on James—before\, during\, and after that encounter. \n\n\n\nIn homage to Stevie Wonder’s incomparable songbook\, James Austin Jr. released his debut album titled “Songs in the Key of Wonder”. This scintillating 10-song set brilliantly covers Motown legend Stevie Wonder’s prolific mid-’60s to mid-’80s heyday in both straight-ahead and Latin veins. The album features captivating renditions of Wonder’s beloved tunes.. \n\n\n\nJames Austin Jr. has performed exclusive shows dedicated to Stevie Wonder at venues such as the University of Chicago’s Logan Arts Center\, The 75 Club in New York\, and Clement’s Place on the campus of Rutgers University in New Jersey. His musical roots run deep\, coming from a family of musicians\, composers\, and singers in Chicago. His parents\, James Sr. and Vernesta Austin\, both contributed to the musical landscape\, and his uncle\, Luke Austin\, was a preeminent contemporary gospel organist. \n\n\n\nSince arriving in New York\, James has kept busy with Gospel\, R&B\, and Jazz gigs. Notably\, he has accompanied superstar vocalists like Lalah Hathaway\, Brian McKnight\, BeBe Winans\, and Yolanda Adams during stellar musical director Ray Chew’s annual all-star “Night of Inspiration” concerts at Carnegie Hall. \n\n\n\nHis soulful stylings reveal a jazz pedigree intertwined with gospel influences\, making James Austin Jr. a remarkable force in the world of jazz piano \n\n\n\nThis April 28 session will be led by James Austin Trio featuring Ben Rubens (bass)\, Kayvon Gordon (drums)\, and Jackie Jones (vocals). \n\n\n\nEvent Free Open to All Please register and Let us know you are coming to join us. \n\n\n\nMessage\n\n\n\nHosted by Pastor Eyesha Marable of Mt Zion AME Church.
