IJS presents A Tribute to Eddie Palmieri w/Little Johnny Rivero at Clements Place

On Monday, December 15, 2025, at 7:00 PM, the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers-Newark proudly presents a spectacular evening honoring the legendary pianist, composer, and bandleader Eddie Palmieri. Known worldwide as “The Sun of Latin Music”, Palmieri has shaped the sound of salsa and Latin jazz for over six decades, blending Afro-Caribbean rhythms with jazz improvisation to create a style that is both electrifying and timeless.

This tribute will be led by master percussionist Little Johnny Rivero, a longtime collaborator and one of the most respected congeros in the world. Rivero’s artistry and deep connection to Palmieri’s music ensure that this performance will be both authentic and innovative. He will be joined by an all-star ensemble featuring: @conradherwig @louisfouche @luquesc and @sebasddrumsofficial guest artist @caicurtis will be at 8pm at Clements Place. Together, this lineup will bring Palmieri’s groundbreaking compositions to life, celebrating his legacy while infusing the music with fresh energy and improvisational fire.

Born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, Little Johnny Rivero grew up immersed in the rhythms of rumba and salsa. He began performing at a young age and went on to play with legendary ensembles, including Eddie Palmieri’s band. His mastery of congas and percussion has made him a sought-after performer across the globe, and his leadership ensures this tribute will be both heartfelt and dynamic.
