Roger Humphries — Legendary Jazz Drummer

Roger Humphries is a master percussionist whose dynamic style helped shape one of jazz’s most iconic recordings: Horace Silver’s Song for My Father. Born in Pittsburgh, Humphries began playing drums at age four and was performing professionally by fourteen. At just twenty, he joined Silver’s quintet, contributing his powerful, swinging touch to the 1964 Blue Note session that produced Song for My Father, Cape Verdean Blues, and The Jody Grind.

His career spans collaborations with jazz greats like Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Henderson, and Nancy Wilson, and includes performances at the Monterey and Newport Jazz Festivals, the Apollo Theater, and venues across Europe. Humphries later formed his own ensembles — RH Factor and the Roger Humphries Big Band — and became a beloved educator at the University of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh CAPA High School.

🎶 In August 2025, Roger Humphrey will bring his legendary sound to Clements Place Jazz in Newark, NJ — continuing his legacy of groove, mentorship, and musical excellence.

Marel Hidalgo — Jazz Guitarist, Bandleader, Rising Star

Marel Hidalgo is a prodigious guitarist from New Jersey whose musical journey began at age four. By six, he was leading his own band, performing across genres from blues and reggae to funk and fusion. Now a rising force in jazz, Marel blends straight-ahead swing with Caribbean rhythms, drawing inspiration from legends like Pat Martino, Joe Pass, and Ernest Ranglin.

He’s performed at prestigious venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Exit Zero Jazz Festival, Bryant Park, and Sunside Jazz Club in Paris, and has collaborated with artists such as Billy Hart, Roger Humphries, Radam Schwartz, and Pat Bianchi. His quartet showcases dazzling technique and soulful phrasing, while his solo sets explore jazz standards with depth and maturity far beyond his years.

In August 2025, Marel Hidalgo will bring his vibrant sound to Clements Place Jazz in Newark, continuing to captivate audiences with a style that’s both timeless and fresh.

Leonieke Scheuble — Jazz Pianist, Organist, Composer

Leonieke Scheuble is a gifted jazz pianist and Hammond organist whose journey began at age five, inspired by the film Ray. Mentored by Steve Ash and encouraged by legends like Dr. Lonnie Smith, she quickly emerged as a rising star, recording her debut album Debut with NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Cobb and engineer Rudy Van Gelder.

Her accolades include the Hot House Magazine Fan Decision Award and the New Jersey Governor’s Award for Exceptional Promise in Music, and she’s performed at Birdland, Shanghai Jazz, and Union County Performing Arts Center. Leonieke leads the Generations of Jazz Trio and continues to inspire through performance, education, and community outreach.

🎶 In August 2025, Leonieke will perform at Clements Place Jazz in Newark, NJ, alongside fellow rising stars Marel Hidalgo and seasoned veteran Roger Humphries, bringing her soulful swing and vibrant energy to a night of multigenerational jazz across the generations.
