First up check out a very cool first time partnership event between Rutgers Clements and Express Newark. This is a jazz heavy hitter concert featuring Bryan Carrott, vibraphone; Eric Person, alto saxophone and flute; Robin Eubanks trombone; Kenny Davis Bass; with Jerome Jennings drums. One Step Beyond led by Eric Person & Bryan Carrot explores the recorded work that developed, over several albums, from the collaboration of Jackie McLean, Grachan Moncur lll, Bobby Hutcherson, & Charles Tolliver. This is going to be a very special event at Express Newark not Clements Place so come on over. You can park and walk straight down Halsey the few blocks to Clement also. Ok heres another very very special event with Gregory Burrus Productions. For those who attended the South Mountain International Blues Festival on the West Orange Mountain every year since it started, its finally returning . This event features New York City-based Blues guitarist Popa Chubby joining forces with Asbury Park Music Awards winner Billy Hector and North Jersey’s 2023 International Blues Challenge winners BLUES People for three hours of Blues on the SOPAC (South Orange Performing Arts Center) Mainstage. This is an extraordinary Black History Month Art Exhibition. The creativity expressed in this show is absolutely amazing. The exhibit features approximately 50 selected works of art by over 30 artists. The artists range from emerging new artists to well established and known artists. I’ve attended this show a number of times over the years and I can tell you its really something special. You will be impressed.
