May 23 @ 11:00 am 12:30 pm a/New_York

Bradley Beach kicks off the summer season with a joyful Memorial Day Celebration at the Bradley Beach Gazebo, featuring the return of the Mike Kaplan Nonet. This high‑energy nine‑piece jazz ensemble brings big‑band power, soulful swing, and uplifting American spirit to a community gathering that honors the holiday and welcomes the start of summer at the shore.

Mike Kaplan is a tenor saxophonist, arranger, and composer best known for leading the acclaimed Mike Kaplan Nonet, a powerhouse nine‑piece ensemble that blends big‑band richness with small‑group spontaneity. His writing and arranging draw from the full spectrum of American jazz, delivering tight horn lines, inventive harmonies, and high‑energy improvisation.

Kaplan has performed with major artists including Slide Hampton, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Chico Mendoza, Steve Turre, Russell Malone, and Rob McConnell, and his arrangements have been featured by ensembles such as Diane Moser’s Composers Big Band and Orquesta Royal. He is also a recipient of the Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission’s “Bits and Pieces” Grant for original composition.

A longtime favorite in the New Jersey jazz scene, Kaplan returns to Bradley Beach for the 2026 Memorial Day Celebration at the Bradley Beach Gazebo, bringing his signature Nonet sound to launch the summer season with swing, soul, and joyful American jazz energy.
