Acclaimed guitarist Marvin Horne brings his trio to Clements Place Jazz on Wednesday, March 20. He’s supported by Tommy Morimoto on tenor saxophone, Donald Nicks on bass, and Mark Johnson on drums. For this performance they will be accompanied by a wonderful vocalist Annette St. John.

Meet Marvin Horne, a dynamic guitarist, composer, arranger, and bandleader born on March 23rd, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri. Marvin’s musical journey kicked off at the University of Missouri and took off when he started playing alongside legends like Chico Hamilton, Elvin Jones, and Aretha Franklin.
With fingers that dance effortlessly on the strings, Marvin has made his mark not only on stage but also in the recording studio, contributing to movie soundtracks and TV shows. His band, fueled by original compositions and a mix of Latin, jazz, blues, and gospel, delivers electrifying performances at renowned venues across New York City.
Marvin’s style is unmistakable—a seamless blend of laid-back groove, expert harmonies, and jaw-dropping technical finesse. Whether he’s strumming at the Cotton Club or leading his own band, Marvin’s music resonates with audiences and critics alike, leaving a lasting impression wherever he plays.

Tommy Morimoto -Tenor Saxophone

Tenor saxophonist Tommy Morimoto is originally from Matthews,NC, but moved to New York in search of more playing opportunities. He has appeared in concert with Dave Brubeck, Les Paul, Anita O’Day, Clint Eastwood, Bob Cranshaw, Joe Wilder, Bill Cosby and Eddie Bert. Mr. Morimoto has played in concert halls, festivals (Playboy, Monterey, JVC), and nightclubs (Minton’s Playhouse, Yoshis, Birdland, Iridium, Catalina’s, The Rainbow Room) and throughout the United States, France, Italy and Switzerland. Recent performances included Ronnie Scotts in London and New York’s famous Blue Note. He has been featured as a sideman on several recordings, including one with Anita O’ Day. Mr. Morimoto studies with legendary pianist Hank Jones.
Donald Nicks – Bass

For the past 15 or more years, Donald has been the bassist with Roy Ayers and has toured extensively with him as well as: Jorge Sylvester, Orlando Aviles, Luther Thomas, Nora McCarthy, Nancy Wilson, Henry Threadgill, Charles Earland, Ray Mantilla and records and performs all over New York and the U.S. and well as Europe. Other Professional Engagements Zachary Breaux, Tom Brown, Jean Carne, Ronnie Laws, Ray Mantilla, Toru Oki, Los Pleneros de la 21, Bobby Sanabria, Tito Puente, Bobby Watson, Sam Wooding, Charles Earland, Roy Ayers, Mario Rivera, Lonnie Liston Smith, Bill Saxton, Johnny Colon.
Mark Johnson – Drums

Mark Johnson is one of the top jazz drummers of his generation. He has worked with Abbey Lincoln, Walter Davis Jr., Jackie McLean, Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Turrentine, Cassandra Wilson, Steve Coleman and David Murray as well as many others.
Annette St. John – Jazz vocalist

Born and raised in Harlem, vocalist Annette St. John grew up in an artistic family that influenced her musical style: equal parts jazz, blues, standards and gospel. She has worked with greats like Jimmy Smith, Della Griffin, and George Benson, and performed all over Manhattan, including at the Apollo, the Blue Note, the Village Vanguard, Smoke and The Cotton Club. In recent years she has appeared in Japan, and led her own groups in NYC. Annette always says, “It’s Not Work If You Love What You Do!”
