GREGORY BURRUS – The producer behind New Jersey’s live music calendar
Gregory Burrus is the founder and principal of Gregory Burrus Productions, a New Jersey-based live music and cultural event production company producing more than 300 events a year across the state. Based in Union, New Jersey, Burrus oversees every phase of an event — talent booking, production, logistics, marketing, and on-site management — for concerts, festivals, and community series in settings ranging from intimate jazz rooms to municipal parks and houses of worship.
Scale and scope
Gregory Burrus Productions operates as a full-service production partner: booking artists, advancing shows, coordinating sound and staging, marketing to local audiences, and managing events on site. The company’s annual calendar spans jazz, Latin jazz, R&B, blues, gospel-infused programs, and multidisciplinary cultural events, serving venues, municipalities, churches, museums, and community organizations throughout New Jersey.
Venues and partnerships
Burrus programs and produces in partnership with many of the region’s leading cultural institutions, including Rutgers University’s Institute of Jazz Studies – Clement’s Place in Newark, where he has been active since 2016; NJPAC Community Engagement, where he also leads the NJPAC CE Jazz Advisory Council and supports widely popular NJPAC Jazz Jams; Morristown’s Morris Museum Back Deck series; Maplewood Art Walk and Music Festival, Springfield Ave Partnership’s Mayfest and Downtown Cranford’s Tuesday and Wednesday Summer Sounds programs. His church‑based programming is anchored at Mt. Zion AME Church in Millburn, with the Jesus & Jazz model now expanding to additional congregations across the region.
Signature programming
Recurring series led by Gregory Burrus Productions include Jesus & Jazz (fourth Sundays), Blues & Blessings (second Sundays), Praise & Poetry, and Communion & Choirs; the Monday Night Big Band Series and yearly jazz programming at Clement’s Place; and outdoor summer concert series in Cranford. Ongoing large-scale productions include the City of Orange Food Truck and Jazz Festival at Monte Irvin Park, programming at Paterson Jazz In the Park and Annual Bradley Beach Jazz Festival .
Artists
Gregory Burrus Productions’ touring‑artist pipeline continues to expand, with Burrus stages showcasing a powerful mix of established jazz and R&B greats — including Nat Adderley Jr., Houston Person, Richard Baratta, and Lance Bryant’s SHOUT! Big Band — alongside national acts such as stellar pianist Cyrus Chestnut, vocalist‑trombonist Bria Stromberg, jazz royalty Delfeayo Marsalis, and contemporary jazz star Ragan Whiteside. Touring bands remain a hallmark of Burrus programming, from LA‑based Katalyst Collective to the electrifying all‑women Colombian salsa ensemble Las Guaracheras, supported by a steady rotation of the New York–New Jersey jazz community’s finest players.
Community and media
Beyond production, Burrus works as a photojournalist, arts and entertainment writer, and live music ambassador, publishing on Patch (South Orange), Jersey Indie, Medium, Substack and other outlets, and producing the weekly “This Week with Gregory Burrus Productions” events roundup. His collaborations include a National Coffee Day interview series with Red House Coffee and artist residency programs with venues across New Jersey.
