Sunday Jazz Series Returns to Springfield Avenue Gazebo – 1688 Springfield Ave

Maplewood, NJ – The Sunday Jazz Series is returning to the Springfield Avenue Gazebo on Sunday, July 23rd and Sunday, August 6th from 3-6pm.

The series is presented by Springfield Avenue Partnership and Gregory Burrus Production and sponsored by Finlay and Gage Musical Instruments.

Mike Lee

The July 23rd performance will feature The Mike Lee Trio and Friends, a straight-ahead jazz group led by saxophonist Mike Lee.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, saxophonist Mike Lee has established himself in the New York City/Northern New Jersey area for many years. He balances a thriving performing career with a distinguished teaching resume. He performs regularly in New York City as a member of a wide array of jazz ensembles. His recent associations include The Roy Hargrove Legacy Big Band, Loston Harris Trio, The Steve Turre Sextet, The Mingus Big Band, The Jimmy Heath Orchestra, The Dizzy Gillespie Orchestra, Wallace Roney’s Universe Orchestra, The Oliver Lake Big Band, The Nat Adderley Jr. Quartet, Josh Evans Big Band, Dave Stryker, Frank Lacy, and TS Monk. He performs regularly at venues such as The Bluenote, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Smalls, The Jazz Gallery, Fat Cat, and Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle Hotel. Recent tours have taken him up and down the East Coast, to Italy, France, Switzerland, California, The Mid East, Australia and Beijing, China. Mike Lee is Professor of Jazz Saxophone at The John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University.

Clarence Conover

The August 6th performance will feature the MPACK Band, a smooth jazz, R&B, and instrumental group. MPack is a band, a brand, and a musical production enterprise, consisting of multiple elements in an ever-evolving flow. Clarence known as the ‘Groove Master’, is a bandleader, bassist, guitarist, keyboardist, drummer and vocalist. Clarence founded MPack Music Productions over 4 decades ago with the motto “Life Changing Sounds.”

Flashback – Sunday Afternoon Jazz 2022

Both performances are free and open to the public. Blankets, chairs and picnic baskets are encouraged, and attendees are welcome to bring their own instruments and join in on the jam sessions.

The Urban Cone food truck will be on site selling ice cream.

The Sunday Jazz Series is a Springfield Avenue Partnership Event that is designed to bring people together to enjoy live music in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. The series is also a great opportunity for musicians to connect with each other and share their love of jazz.
